Leave it to my trusty fellow rateclubsers to have sufficiently documented the Morimoto experience in it's entirety - from gorgeous pictures highlighting the enticingly glamorous and modern décor to your fabulous culinary photo journalism detailing every turn of creativity and tastiness that Morimoto's knife wields, you've done me proud! Entertaining a group of 10 clients here was an unquestionable soaring success... taking pictures of my meal? Not so much. I was met with puzzled looks and perplexed stares as I clicked away at my first course of oysters three ways, looks like my clientele doesn't reside within the foodie set. So be it... With blackberry camera dutifully tucked away, I allowed one of the best meals I've ever consumed to flow uninterrupted. It was everything I had anticipated from the Iron Chef and more! Going with the Chef's Choice - aka Omakase - I found myself on a compulsory tour of the inspired Morimoto and his famed flawless Japanese preparation. One glass of the fresh and fruity signature Sparkling Ume was all my palette needed to prime me for dishes of citrus and jalapeno infused hamachi segueing into a buttery soft waygu, flowing into a course of fatty tuna tartare with caviar followed by butter poached lobster nestled up to creamy spider crab and then back again with a sampling of rare, mouth-watering sushi. Mackerel? Never liked the scaly bastard... 'til Morimoto made it for me, his touch turns everything to gold! Service was positively impeccable... we were well attended to throughout the evening and amply educated on the treats and selections at our disposal. One note that I'll school you on is this: the Omakase comes at two price points; $80 p/p or $120 p/p. This does *not* designate quantity, but rather the complexity and rarity of the ingredients that are brought to you. My table did a split between the two, and to be honest, I didn't find the higher price point to be significantly more impressive, while both were downright phenomenal. Stick to the less pricey tasting and save your Yen for dessert... The Morimoto chocolate pot de creme with caramelized banana is the paramount ending to a superlative evening. Bon Appetit!
by Herb Wassmann on This place is cool. It is very trendy and upscale. I took a client out to STK for dinner this past September and had a really fantastic time. The cocktails were amazing I got this Strawberry Martini ...with freshly chopped strawberries. It was just perfect, not overwhelmingly sweet. The food was really good too, I don't recall what I got but I know I enjoyed the food alot! It's a great place to go out to with a big group of people. It's like a really nice trendy club that serves really good food. It's very expensive - so ideal if the bill's getting expensed!
