***Summary: I will not return*** I have been to the GR three times. The first time was in Dec 2009 right after it opened. I heard great things and wanted to see it for myself. They force you to valet your car. It wasn't very busy, I paid $5 for a Bud Light bottle. I asked the bartender "really" she rudely replied "this is Buckhead". The dance floor was nearly empty. When I left I was neither impressed or disappointed. The next time I went in May for Kaskade. I am a HUGE fan and bought tickets for in advance. We arrived at 11:15pm valeted our car and got in line. An hour later we had moved only a few steps forward and the DJ was a few songs into his set. I overhead the doormen talking the club being over capacity and they would not be admitting any more until others left. Wonderful. There were easily 100 people ahead of us in line. The show might be over by the time we got in. When a doorman walked by us my date spoke quietly with the him slipped him a $20 and the doorman gave us a ticket and escorted us to the front of the line. Even then, we had to wait another 10 minutes to enter. Once we got in it was packed shoulder to shoulder-clearly the event was clearly oversold and I'm sure the fire department would have shut it down. Much of the club on the main floor was VIP and the entire second floor was VIP. If you wanted to sit and you were not in VIP you were SOL. If you wanted to be able to enjoy the music without getting bounced around between drunk people while avoiding getting burned by the cigarette you were also SOL. There was only one bar for non-VIP. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! It took us another 45 minutes for us to make our way to the bar and get served. The bartenders were overworked and unfriendly. I paid $8 for a vodka & soda in a plastic cup that was weak and tasted like well vodka. I could have almost bought a bottle of that garbage at Tower down the street for what they charged me for one drink. As much as I was a fan of the DJ I could not handle the scene and left around 1:30am. I paid around $50 for two tickets PLUS another $20 to grease the doorman to get in the door and the night was a bust. After this fiasco I sent an email to the Gold Room outlining the problems I experienced. I received a prompt email response from Francisco D'Arcy the Marketing & Promotions Manager (sent from Jason Dauble's email account) apologizing for my experience and promising me that "the appropriate measures have been taken to ensure speedy entry for everyone who buys their tickets in advance for all of our events." He then offered to put me and a guest on the VIP Guest List for the Crystal Method show. He then wrote "You will not have to wait in line, just go to the table reservation line and tell them you are on the VIP list." He continued with "If you have any trouble at the door you can text me directly, (404) 863-XXXX, and I will personally come get you at the door." I was impressed by the quick response and reasonable attempt to earn my business back. I arrived around 11:00pm and had to pay $10 for valet. REALLY?! The lot is right there. I told myself that I was getting VIP entry to make me feel better. However I was NOT on the VIP guest list. I was not on any list. The good news is that there was NO line (maybe people heard about the Kaskade debacle and are staying away from the GR). I texted Francisco and after 15 minutes with no response, the doorman let us in anyway. I got in and found out why. The place was EMPTY. Which means there was no wait at the bar-yay! 45 minutes after I texted him, Francisco finally replied. Apologized for me not being on the guest list, that he was "with the artist". I asked about VIP entry and he backpedaled and stated that VIP Guestlist/Entry meant I didn't have to wait in line (there was no line to wait in) and my entry was comped but I was NOT given entry into the VIP area. Then what the heck does VIP Guestlist/Entry mean?! At almost 12:30 the Crystal Method was still not on and the crappy house DJ was spinning some stuff that was giving me a headache so we left the GR and went to a club in Midtown with more than 14 people inside and had a lot of fun. I'm just irritated that I wasted my time giving the GR a second chance. The valet guy heard everything that happened, felt bad and refunded our $10 even though he was a different business than the GR. What a class act-he was the only positive part of my time at the GR. I have been to many places around Atlanta and have never had such disappointing experiences. At this rate they will not be open for much longer.

This used to be "The Golden Cue" which was the place to see all all the pros play. My dad used to take me when I was a kid. Now it's a different vibe but the tables still remain. Aside from the billiards they have a nice lounge, bar even a bowling alley. Everything in there is brand new and the crowd was very mixed which was nice definitely a nice lounge and a good place to go when you don't want to deal with Manhattan.

I remember back in college when this place was "The Palace". I have only gone to this venue because I HAD to (such as when RED was here a few years ago, or now that Spundae moved here). Spundae itself was not bad back when it was Circus, but now that it moved to Avalon it really sucks. 1. It's not as big as Circus (when Circus had the entire thing opened up), which is not a good thing when it's crowded and you want to dance. Prepare to bump into people all night and stick to your one-foot radius of personal space. 2. Different bartenders will charge different prices for the same exact drink! 3. People who were out on the Hollywood strip who just want to go to a club for the sake of just going- usually shallow L.A. crowd. 4. Expensive parking- $20 to $25! What a ripoff! I'm Asian as well, and I do agree that the majority of people during Spundae seem to be Asian, but Asians love their trance music!
