by Helen D. on This place is so fashionable... I loved the decors. Wow! First time seeing topless dancers! (They aren't go go dancers.) I saw a girl in a clear box dancing/moving... They were not like strippers, more like I was watching a play. Very classy. We can't take pictures inside, but there is photo booth!! The owner was very friendly and nice. Thank you!
by Cassidy Roye on From the outside, you know this is not your typical bar in Old City, let alone all of Philadelphia. Unless you consider it commonplace to walk up solid stone steps to get your beer fix. Designed by architect William Strickland, its first use was as a bank during the revolution followed with it being a place of worship ( Norwegian Church) Much much later, it was a series of nightclubs and bars including a "Coyote Ugly" but it has been NM for the last 2 years and I couldn't be happier. For someone who doesn't drink, why go to a bar? Maybe because you can sit and enjoy the greatest $6 dollar burger while seated at a Church pew. The music selection is always entertaining because Billy Idol doesn't usually follow Lil' Kim or does he? There's no television but a projection screen used for... Rock BAND!!!! Old City is notorious for selecting their crowd for their watering holes but never have I seen anyone feel out of place and why should they? NM has the feel of a dive bar but there is never a creepy guy at the end of the bar!!! Then again, I'm the always sober one. Take a look!
by Caroline I. on i had row j, seat 13 for dashboard confessional last night - and although ticketmaster made it seem kindasorta far back, and to the left of the stage, i must say - don't trust the ticketmaster seating charts! most of the time, it's out of scale and inaccurate. i was pretty thrilled with my row j, seat 13 - because of the small size of the orpheum, it was pretty close to the stage, and basically center.. seriously. the seats were pretty awesome. the orpheum is pretty small and intimate - which i loved. i'm not a huge fan of spread out ampitheatres and the like. i feel more energy in a smaller venue. it's helpful especially for a show like dashboard's - the crowd unites together and sings along, like singing around a campfire. it's pretty awesome, and it's not quite the same at a less intimate venue. the sound was good - nothing spectacular, but good. i love the architecture and the little details of the orpheum - the ceilings are especially gorgeous. my one complaint is that the lobby is way too small - it took us forever to get out when the concert ended because there was this stampede of people trying to get to the exit. overall, i really enjoyed my night - great seats, great atmosphere, and i must say that dashboard rocked the house (chris carraba rocks my world).
