by Anna B. on My little suggested clubbing in Hollywood when we visited LA. Sadly, everyone in our group was under 21. BAH. We tried to make the best of it and found Avalon. It was a Friday night. We lined up and when we reached the counter to pay, my eyes popped out. "You're kidding me, right? $30 for cover, even if you're 21+. OH MY GAWD!! WT...?!?! This place better be 'effin amazing." I walked in and the size of the venue certainly impressed me. It was huge. And there were a lot of bars ;D The dance floor was huge and reminiscent of a rave. The DJ played a lot of techno songs and the lights definitely added to the rave feel. At one point, someone threw up in the middle of the dance floor, and people actually fell in it. GROSS! My complaint: NONE of the bars had the right stuff to make a LC (that's a liquid cocaine drink!). BOO! :[ How could you not?!?! The midori sours were decent. oh yes, creepers dominated the place. There were a lot of guys roaming the club and not enough girls. The place is open until 5AM, so you meet many interesting characters. And they will approach you! I admit, I was expecting a different kind of scene with more variety to the music. Avalon was impressive with the feel, decor, and size, but I would not pay that much again for this club.
by Dee C. on I'm comparing this to all nightlife in the Mission. I loath going to the Mission after dark, but for an early evening cocktail at Medjool's roof top is a hidden gem. There is a beautiful view overlooking the cities skyline and a nice yuppie crowd. A crowd you wont normally find in the Mission. Don't get me wrong, there are delicious restaurants and places I love trying out. But for actually night life, I'd be praying for my life or my sanity. I've tried appetizers here and they are average. They wait staff is friendly and the hostess is always adorable. This is a great place to come after work or an evening cocktail on a sunny warm day, rare but possible. Cheers!
