by Kailyn A. on I went to Tao for restaurant week. It was ok.. a bit over rated. The reason I gave Tao 3 stars is for the atmosphere and the portions. There was no way I could come close to finishing my meal here, it was far too much food. I ordered dumplings, sirloin and mango sorbet. All were good the meat was a bit fatty. I had the grapefruit cocktail... it was spectacular.
by phoenix a. on I really wanted to give this beautiful venue more stars but the ridiculous clowns there called "the bouncers" really blow chunks. First of all, this whole selecting-the-beautiful-people cattle call system of getting people in is really passe Hollywood. It's amusing for about 2 seconds because you can see who really tried their hardest by what they wore. The Kress really needs to get with technology and provide an on-line guest list and a no bullshit system of admitting guests, not this who-can-bribe-the bouncers-best business. The guys in my party forked out close to $200 to get our whole party in. The bouncers told the girls that the guys were holding us back. I felt like one of the big bouncers there was doing an audition the entire time playing big stereotypical roid head with eyes bulging out saying, "Next time don't bring so many guys!" I was seriously hoping that he didn't act this way in real life and was giving him 2 thumbs up only for that. Now the club itself is very beautiful but much smaller than I had expected it to be from the photos. Or maybe it's because, someone else mentioned, that the rest of the club isn't accessible unless you are VIP. But it was actually pretty stunning just like I remembered V20 to be. The drink prices are horrific. Yes, I know it's Hollywood, but to me it's not in a nice enough part of town to command those prices. Well, I guess it is if that's what the beautiful people want to pay. Thank goodness the music was fun (good hip hop) and that the bartenders were good. That, my dear reader, equals 2 stars...but if for some reason someone else comes up with the bright idea to come here again, unless I'm guaranteed entrance into this place, the bouncers can suck on my phantom nuts...until the then, the 2 stars remain!
