by Jamila Oberman on I was there for Parish's opening party almost a year ago. I've grabbed lunch at the market a few times, and met friends there for a drink. Last night for the first time, my parents, husband and I ate dinner at Parish. The Food: I was very happy with my entire meal. 5-stars kind of happy. However, I did get to share in my families meals, and can honestly say all of their meals were definitely not 5-star worthy. We shared the chicken liver and jumbo buffalo shrimp as an appetizer. Not a big liver fan myself, but my parents seemed to enjoy it. The Buffalo Shrimp was good, but probably not worth $19. My beef short-ribs were divine. The meat was tender, cooked perfectly, portioned perfectly, the potatoes were perfect, the sauce was perfect. It was just a perfect perfect perfect plate of food. However, my husband's pot-pie, and my Dad's trout were under-seasoned, and overall slightly disappointing. My Mom's gumbo - nicely executed. Our after dinner drinks; awesome. The firefly vodka cider drink was out-of-this-world. The chocolate and espresso martini's; equally impressive. The ambiance is really unique, very hip and trendy in an unconventional kind of way. Our waitress was on top of her game, and she had a really happy/friendly attitude all night long. The menu is on chalkboards on the walls. I have 20/20 vision, so I'm kind of indifferent to the concept. However, having the sides or further explanation of what comes with the main-dish would be helpful. Sides can be a tie-breaker when I'm trying to decide what to order. Final Thought: This place has it all and you shouldn't pass it up!
by Justin B. on Have you ever wanted to see Knights wage war on one another simply because their clothing under their armor was not the same color? Would you prefer to spend your night watching a battle to the death while you feast upon giant chicken legs and drink wine out of a goblet? Well I can't promise you will see a battle of epic proportions at this place that is not fake, scripted, rehearsed or choreographed; but, I can guarantee an unusually different yet interesting experience. The gimmick about this place is of course the battling knights in the middle of the restaurant venue that play out a scene all to similar to the one Matthew Broderick and Jim Carrey carried out in "The Cable Guy." The knights are basically set up to duel to a fake death in a restaurant accommodating gladiator arena, with everyones tables aligned so that not a single customer will miss the choreographed action. I don't really know why I thought this place would be a great investment for my entertainment on the particular night that I went. Perhaps what attracted me was the opportunity to chuckle at guys whose profession in life was to be a fake knight. If you can manage to look past all of the comedic aspects of this place, and allow yourself to get into the entertainment value that Medieval Times offers you will probably have a pretty good time. It is a pretty neat and unique concept either way.
