I was made to feel cheap and dirty and I enjoyed it. Although my dear L.o.m.l. and I had began our Saturday night at The BookHouse Pub I really can't remember too much about that place. After sharing a table with 2 guilty gents (they stole the table we had staked out and invited us over when L.o.m.l. gave them a look that at once accused them of murdering babies and secondly offered emotional devastation). I wasn't able to milk out free drinks from them but oh well. After some small talk she asked "what is the one thing I've got to experience in Atlanta?" One of them instantly offered: "The Clermont Lounge, where strippers go to die". She is no prude; this is the woman who took ME to Jumbo's Clown Room ( http://www.rateclubs.com/bi...). She gave me a look and I immediately took one last swig of my drink and chased down the waitress to close our tab. When I went back for her she was already saying goodbye to the table crashers and breaking for the door. A few minutes later the navigation said we arrived. We saw nothing other than a closed and run down hotel/motel. Sensing a truly seedy experience I told her to drive around back; jackpot. There were a few folks parked in the parking lot obviously up to no good; we both knew this night would be special. We had no clue. I don't know why, but I immediately thought of Jodie Foster and that movie with the pinball machine. My visual cortex was rendered damaged after only a short time there. Truth be told, we actually enjoyed a romantic evening together. We were engaged in a mutually blissful trance of love when a woman in her 60's (or more) sensuously caressed my shoulder and offered me a dance. L.o.m.l. began to immediately reach for her purse when the "dancer" picked up on our vibe and said "you guys don't need me, but you'll need a room soon." She walked/waddled away as innocently as she arrived. I showered before bed that evening...for a very long time. I tried to shampoo my eyes but it only caused more pain. I wore pajamas buttoned all the way to the top but it was too late. I had been deflowered and nothing I could do would bring back my innocence. Even worse, as I began to reflect on my experience I had to admit that I enjoyed it. I am now a whore.

Hello, anyone home??? I went to the El Toro Cantina (which is not the Busby's side but at the same location of the old Conga Room) for lunch recently on a Friday and it was DEAD as a door nail during the entire time. Our party was the first one to show up during the prime lunch hour, noon to 1. Another party showed up a bit later & it happened to be a few other people from my office who decided to come here separately...small world! There is an inside dining area, an outdoor front patio area on Wilshire and a bar area. The decor is modern with huge ceiling hung light fixtures. Not the traditional Mexican decor by any means. Nicely decorated. Be sure to order at least 3 tacos...they are appetizer size. Take two bites, one huge bite or 3 nibbles and it's gone. They are pricey given their smallish size...$3-4 each. The LONG list of tacos to choose from is mind boggling and the menu lists suggested wine or tequila pairings as well. Of the three tacos I tried (part of the lunch special for $11), the Yucatan chicken soft taco was my favorite. The shredded beef cruchy taco is good. I didn't care foe the Mahi Mahi soft taco, not very flavorful. My dining companions raved about the carnitas, the BBQ duck and the lobster tacos. The drinks weren't very stiff. I had the mango margarita ($9) which was more like a smoothie. We complained & the subsequent rounds were much stronger (I think we being the only patrons there had something to do with that). The list of tequila is quite extensive ranging from the low end to 'super premium.' The menu states happy hour is 4-8 pm although it doesn't mention what is discounted (it does say free parking underneath the heading). A friend of mine went here on an early Sat. afternoon and it was empty. Maybe this place draws an evening crowd (I hope). Although I like the food on the most part & work nearby, the high prices will deter me from coming back very often. UPDATE 4/26/07 Went back to the the El Toro Cantina tonight & the vibe is much bettter after dark. Not a bad place to hang out after work for food and drinks. I tried the steak fajitas which was a bit dry and a mushroom taco which wasn't bad. Our large group did have to move to another set of tables after 8 pm. I guess they wanted to free up the booth seating we were occupying. But it did break up the party.
