This is going to be a somewhat contextual review of this place from me. This is by no means a bad bar (I have not tried it as a restuarant), but rather, it's somewhat out of place in the warehouse district of Williamsburg. Having Viva Toro around the corner from my favorite bar in Williamsburg (the Levee) means that I've walked by it a couple of times, and several times, my group has gone there as an alternative when our usual haunt gets too full. It's fairly standard, restaurant by day, bar/club by night. But it's clientele is extremely bridge & tunnel and bro-hammy. Earlier in the evening, its a good mix, but by 10p, it gets taken over by raggaeton and hip hop music and the line begins forming of Ed Hardy shirts and popped collared polos waiting to spill their grey goose and red bulls while watching their friends on the mechanical bull. This would be much more fitting in the UES or in Murray Hill, but in Williamsburg it sticks out like a sore thumb in the midst of so many other great bars and restaurants. That being said, the beer selection is good and the drinks are decent, albeit pricey considering the location. If this is your scene, this might be the bar for you, it's just not for me.

was there the other night for freeform which was definitely some good spinning. had a great time and will be back in the future. also was great that there was a mix of different types of peeps and no need for dress to impress.

My review is specific to the restaurant, I did not stay for the club transition (which, given the below reviews, I'm thinking was a good call), and the food, service, and atmosphere were phenomenal. I would rank this 2nd behind Bukhara Grill in terms of the best Indian food I've had in NYC - very authentic, appropriate spice level, and not greasy or heavy in the least. Bummer that it's getting a bad rep for the club...running a club and a restaurant are two very different endeavors, perhaps they should focus on their core business and turn it into more of a lounge after-hours, ditch the loud and apparently ill-equipped DJs for more punjabi chill music :)
