by Stephen N. on This place is very mediocre. Went here last Saturday and it wasn't as crowded as you'd hope on a Saturday night and the music is average at best (was looking for hip hop) The drink prices are standard. Bartender service was not horrible but not good either. Just a very average place to go. If you're nearby, it definitely doesn't hurt to go in, but I would plan a Birthday party here or anything like that.
by Heather S. on Wow, great place!! Visited from MA., friend raved about this place...she was on target. Only complaint- she neglected to warn me of how packed it can be..we shuffled in out of the rain to stand squished in the bar area, unable to move or see the stage- nor did she mention the fact that they only took cash. All of the seating was full, had I know to go early that would have prevented the 2 hours sitting on the wood floor crosslegged. But, even w/ the drinkless uncomfortable seating- it was worth it!! The poets were sooo good, the hostess was very funny and made the vibe perfect. So go early, bring cash and sit back, relax and enjoy- a must!!
by Lura Carmello on I'm afraid I'm now going to be known as the indiscriminate rateclubser that gives out five stars to everything -- but, I just happen to have tried some awesome food lately. Flip's burgers are no exception. We had been waiting for all the buzz to die down before heading over to the Westside, and figured a Thursday night visit would save us from an annoyingly long wait. The restaurant last night was still full and hopping, but we got seated immediately at the counter looking into the kitchen area. We even caught a glimpse of Blais dashing through the kitchen. There have been a ton of laudatory reviews of this joint so let me get down to it: the food is delicious, ingeniously crafted, and easy on the wallet. We shared the rBq (brisket) burger and the corn beef burger, with fried okra and sweet potato tator tots on the side. The burgers were fantabulous, and the tators yummy but not as big a hit as the tempura battered okra. We also tried their spicy chocolate shake (I'm forgetting now if it was chipotle peppers that added the kick), a great mix of sweet and spicy -- fyi, the shakes are the same price as the burgers, so that's the only thing on the menu that could be perceived as pricey. We were satisfied by our meals, but there were so many other burgers we were dying to try that we were tempted to order another burger. We decided in the end to just come back again, and again, and again.
