The coolest part about this place is that you are drinking on a boat. That means that you will be bobbing up and down or you might get sick from watching the smaller boat go up and down. The food is okay, though their system is a bit disorganized. You have to order at the bar, get a ticket, then go back to the kitchen area to pick it up. It can take a while and the orders do  not come out in numerical order. The drinks are pretty weak. The white wine sangria is okay, but again, very diluted. It's a yuppie crowd, but if you bring your own friends, it should be fun. Since you are on a boat, bathrooms are far from nice. Go down below deck, into a flimsy wooden shack bathroom. One toilet, one urinal, one sink. Also, this is a retro-fit bathroom, so while you're peeing, you're next to a generator or some other machine that sounds like it's about to blow up. Kind of a pain to get to.

I DJ here every couple of Fridays or so and have only been here Fridays so I can't really comment on any of the other nights. There's cheap parking that fills up fast, so people generally park across the street at Kress for $20.  There's another lot in the back of the street but they recently raised their price to $20 as well so that's kind of pointless. Overall I like this venue.  What happens is they take down the middle wall before the club opens, and then Opera and Crimson becomes one medium-sized club.  The inside is not your typical megaclub setup (huge dancefloor w/ big stage front and center); it's more loungey in some ways and has two decent sized dancefloors, a rather large smoking area, and a bunch of bars scattered throughout the place.  I like the overall feel of the place. The bartenders are good for the most part, minus one rotten apple.  Drinks are averagely priced for any Hollywood club (overpriced), and the bouncers are pretty chill, I've definitely seen worse.  My friend lost her entire purse this past Friday but the workers ended up finding it afterward and saving it for her to pick up on Sunday, so that was good of them to do.  Don't get too drunk though because like any club, they will escort the people who are falling over or throwing up out the door. I'd like to say the music is great on Friday's for obvious reasons, but that obviously depends on your taste.  The DJs (there's a rotation of more than a handful so it's always a different one) are great at what they do and spin a mix of hip hop, top 40s, electro, mashups, and some old school.  I'm familiar with the Asian club scene out here and have heard some mediocre DJs in town; I would definitely rank the ones here among the top of the game, no bias. With Asian crowds in LA, it can be tough finding a balance of "completely fobby," and "I think I'm gonna get shot" crowds, so the thing I probably enjoy most about this place is the crowd that's somewhere in the middle ground.  Definitely be at least somewhat punctual because you might have trouble getting in as it gets closer to midnight.  Cheers.

Like everyone else said: It's a very pretty hotel, and it's the level of quality you'd expect from a 4-star hotel. It was clean, it was well-kept, and it was home to the EMACS conference. I took Kate M.'s advice and booked through Priceline and got the room for $85/night. I felt a bit guilty about it since it was listed at $269/night, but that guilt washed away when I paid $10.95 + tax for 'net access each day and almost $50 on a room service dinner. They made their money off me just fiiiiiiiine. My only complaint was that the room was really loud, meaning, you could hear conversations from rooms above and around you, and especially conversations several floors down in the restaurant. The open atrium architecture is very pretty, but also unbelievably loud. Bring earplugs. All rooms face the atrium (I believe), so there's kinda no getting around this. A random rant: I'm sure you've all noticed that when you pay more for a hotel, you have to spend money on the small things; things that would be free at a cheaper hotel. Forget your toothpaste? At the $105/night Holiday Inn you'd ask the front desk and they'd hand you toothpaste. At the $269/night place, they direct you to their boutique which sells travel toothpaste for $3.50. Grrr. Anyway, their room service steak was super-tasty, their chipotle sweet potato casserole side was also quite yum, but their decaf was burned to crap... but then again, it was probably from the Starbucks in the lobby. Considering I'm always doing business at Mopac & 183, I'll stick with the Springhill Suites.
