Holy crap, can we say beautifulawesomecool? I read plenty of rateclubs reviews hyping this place to high heaven, but even they did not prepare me for the uniquely fantastic bar that is the Frying Pan. The two tiered pier is nice enough, and a wonderful setting for knocking back a not-TOO-exorbitantly-priced beverage or two. However, what really earned this place its five stars was the Frying Pan itself, which is docked on the side of the pier and all too easily overlooked upon entering. This old lightship was literally underwater for three years, which explains why you feel like you've set foot on the saltiest most sea-worn vessel in all of New York. They've cleaned up the outside, and inside they've removed the rusty nails and the jagged barnacles obviously, but otherwise this is a ship they've pulled off the ocean floor. Nothing creepier than tiptoeing around every nook and cranny of a wreck. Of course, the whole experience was definitely enhanced by the fact that the ship was eerily deserted and totally quiet. We could have been adrift at sea, miles away from New York City's trendy nightlife. It was a wonderfully cool feeling. I suspect that this place may get crowded enough during the high season to put a little bit of a damper on the whole experience, but I'd be willing to bet that it is still worthwhile and enjoyable, if not quite as perfect as it is on a warm night in late September.

Just a neighborhood bar. Bartenders all know you by name, and are very friendly and encourage a safe and fun environment. When going out, it's the first place I think of!

will have to rewrite review when comin here for a non business event... this review is for the pbp nonprofit event... owner of bar is very easy to work with for this event, provided us projector, slide show on flat screen tv's... and free lil munchies and drink specials! big enough for big group, small enough for intimate interaction! plenty of seating areas... a lil dark... not really liking the red velvet curtains... bathrooms are interesting... u can see out... but lookin in u see a mirror...

I didn't buy anything here, but the vibe is hella cool. I was just walking by and heard cool music coming from here, then I saw the name. So cool. Many young people come here for FREE Wireless, most brought their laptops. I stopped in to get some water. Luckily the girl gave me a glass w/ ice cubes & water. So nice. The desserts looked good, though I hate when they are just lying out w/o a cover. Grosses me out. A lady behind me got a tiny cupcake. I later asked how it was she said it was so-so. She said her coffee was good though. They have lunch items available. Think it stops being a cafe at 5pm, then it's a Bar after that time. Separate men & women bathrooms available. Close to Marines Memorial Theatre, so good place to hang before or after a show. Hrs: M-F 6am-2AM Sat-Sun 7am-2AM
