by Bette Reznicek on We tried it for dinner on Friday night, arriving about 6pm. It's a brand-new restaurant, and they are still working out the kinks. For example, the hostess told us it would be a 20 minute wait, but it was more like 35. Better to overestimate! Once we were sat, we had a chance to look over their rather extensive menu of hot and cold appetizers, seafood, meats, and casserole-style dishes. We started with the grilled squid appetizer. It was nicely seasoned, tender, and very tasty. For dinner, she had the lamb-kebob, and I had the marinated pork kebob. Let me tell you: if you are going to Mykonos--come hungry! it's a lot of food. Both kebob dinners come with a large side salad (I had the Greek, with lots of fresh dill, and she, the Village Greek, which is basically the Greek minus the lettuce.) On the dinner plate, the kebobs come out with tender chunks of meat and grilled veggies on the skewer. Both of our meats were delicious! They're served on a bed of rice, with a side of potatoes, more grilled veggies, and some sort of sauteed grape leaves(?). It was all delicious--the only negative (if you consider it so) was that it was too much food! For dessert, we split a piece of baklava. Unfortunately, it was the only part of the meal I was less-than-thrilled with. For one thing, it had apples in it. Not that I don't like apple pie, but I don't want it in my baklava! It was a bit runny, and just not what I wanted. If you are looking for a marriage between apple pie and baklava, then, by all means, enjoy! If you prefer a more traditional version--skip it. If that wasn't bad enough-no Greek coffee to go with? I have a feeling that option can't stay overlooked for TOO long. The foodies will rise up and demand it! All things considered, it was still a great meal. If you have kiddies (and there were several tables with them) They do have burgers, spaghetti and a few other domestic dishes to placate them. Oh, and a quick note to the nice little Spanish-speaking girl who kept trying to come over and take my glass away toward the end of the meal. Relax! You can have it when I get up...
by Marie P. on I went to Georgia State for school and got my degree in music. Slice is a 30 second walk from the music building so most of us music majors could be found there. Pretty convenient for college kids: pizza and booze. Nice thinking Slice. It took me a couple of times to warm up to this place. First time: sucked. Sucky salad and even more sucky service. Second time: didn't get anything but drooled over my friend's calzone. Third time: Friday afternoon lunch. Got a calzone, which was great. Their pizzas, calzones and lasagna are completely customizable, which is pretty cool, especially when you see their topping list. It's HUGE. But the service sucks. Every single time I've been, the service is super slow, even when the joint is empty. One particular time I waited 45 minutes for my food and ended up being late for one of my classes. But I really like their calzone! It's also kind of expensive though. A plain cheese calzone that comes with a salad is $9.50 and toppings cost extra. But the calzone is huge and I always have leftovers for dinner. So I guess it's worth it. Another thing, this place turns into a club or something late at night. It's usually slammed then, especially if a game just got out at the Georgia Dome. Not to mention it's pretty much the only restaurant within a 15 block radius that's open after 6. Which, in all actuality, is great when you get stuck at school late practicing for a recital that you have in 2 weeks. Not that I know from personal experience. All in all, a pretty decent place but not my favorite.
