I hate to say it, but I was a little underwhelmed by the Edison. And I really, really, heartfelt, really wanted to be wowed. First and foremost, I gotta give it up, the place is GORGEOUS. The bar, the silent films flickering on the walls, the lighting, the power plant element's they've retained, its beautiful. And I wish I could have just walked around by myself or just with my friends. When you look at the web site, you think that maybe the place would retain some speak easy charm or create some 1920's ambiance, but really, its just like every other bar. Its very down town with a swanky crowd. The DJ was lame. Night at the Roxbury tracks? Puh-leeze. Apparently they have a strict dress code (mostly for dudes) but the bouncers didn't seem that interested in our male party member's vans and sneakers (which the web site says are not allowed) the saturday night we visited. This says to me, "we make up arbitrary rules you will have to follow at our discretion. Because sometimes we feel like being dicks." Snobbery will get you nowhere, my friends. I know I'm cheap but, in my opinion, the drinks are too expensive. $13 is a lot to pay for a cocktail that isn't knock me on my ass strong or going to massage my shoulders and blow me at the end of the night. I wish I would have tried some of the food (which friends of mine rave about) but when the first opportunity presented itself, we bolted to Bar 107 a couple blocks over. So maybe I would visit the Edison again. But I think it would only be to show a friend from out of town the building itself, as in; "Want to see how pretty LA can be? Aw, look how beautiful, lets hang out for a bit. Ok,  now are you ready to have a great time? Alright, lets get the fuck out of here."

In Short: Great Dancers, Awful Staff I'm a salsa dancer and this place attracts the best dancers but almost everyone who works here, especially the goons at the door, are rude or indifferent.  I saw them reject a girl at the door who came with a bunch of friends because she had a (intentional) hole in her designer jeans.  I've never met the owner, but a friend of mine got in an argument with him and the owner guy was like "Do you know who I am?"  Honestly I'll probably go back to this place because the dancing is great and I've met some awesome people here but I'll never support it by buying drinks or taking classes.  If you want great salsa teachers, try people  like Cristian Oviedo, DJ Zonik, Liz Lira, Dave Lea etc... instead

Food was very average at a place that didn't seem too hip.  Had the chicken nachos and the veggies quesidillas. The margaritas were great.  The drinks pushed this place from a two star to a three star venue.
