by Timothy R. on So this is the story with Grey. I've been here probably 3 or 4 times. It's different every time. Nice VIP area upstairs. The crowd is a little unpredictable, the music runs the gambit. I don't have anything really bad to say about it, its just that you don't know what you are going to get from night to night. One time the crowd was hip-hop, another time there were a lot of Euro girls. The place is a bit small, it can get pretty hot and the bathroom can be hard to find. But you expect this from a place that's more of a lounge instead of a club. The door people were actually respectful, which makes me more inclined to return.
by Margarete Splitt on Apple Hostels has got it down to the details. Motion detecting night lights, kitchen utensils, earplugs, towels, sheets, lockers, vending machines (with toothbrushes/paste and ponchos, too?!)... really, just about everything. Free pasta dinner/beer once a week and cereal on the weekends. I wish I could have stayed longer to take advantage of all they had to offer and see more of Philadelphia in general, but they did top off a great one night! This was my first hostel experience, so I was a little nervous from all the horror stories I've heard from friends. Like Ethan said, this is definitely going to be setting the bar high for future expeditions.
by rupam c. on I love this place! This is where I went to seek comfort in the madness that is medical school. The entrees are big, and the dishes come with huge portions of plantains and rice and beans. My go-to item was the cajun shrimp with yellow rice, it was totally worth the sketchy parking in north philly. Mixto is considered to be the upscale version of Tierra Columbiana, but I've been there to, and it really doesn't compare (except in price).
