by sarah F. on You can't beat their $1 oyster happy hour, you just can't. Their food is really yummy- I really love their garlic cheese bread. The crap dip is totally addicting. The decor is really nice at Mayes- dark wood, cute decorations, etc. Very mellow, elegant environment. Moving on... I have had both good and not so good experiences here. The first time I came, it was a truly wonderful experience. Great food, good beer, good everything. The second time I came, it wasn't so great. Service was painfully, painfully slow. As in: my sister ordered a bloody mary, and the waitress came back and said they didn't have bloody mary mix, and then it took her 20 min. to come back to ask her what she wanted instead. As in: ordering beer and wine and seeing it sit on the bar for 10 minutes, and no one's bringing it to our table. As in: our waitress completely ignoring us. It was very strange... to our faces she was really nice and helpful, but then took forever to bring us drinks/food/take our drink orders. And I mean *forever*. If you go to Mayes later, it turns into a really fun dance bar. They play the music videos on the flat screens, and they play a good mix of hip hop-old school and newer stuff too. I'm totally down to come party at Mayes, but not so much for dinner/happy hour. Even though the Happy Hour oysters are a buck... I just can't stomach such bad service.
by Henry Cosen on My new favorite spot! This is a cute little place off of South St - a little hard to find but well worth looking. Their cocktails are delicious and reasonably priced (I recommend the Key Lime cocktail!). This is a great date location. The menu has diverse offerings in addition to their daily specials, all within budget. Five stars!
