Wow, this place is amazing. My husband and I have watched every episode of Top Chef and found ourselves in the Atlanta area and figured we'd go check out Kevin Gillespie's place. The food he cooks on the show, which he calls "fat kid food" was intriguing. We were not dissapointed. The ingredients are local, fresh and simply prepared. We took my dad out to dinner which is always an interesting experience since he doesn't eat "foo-foo food." This restaurant is very nice and inviting without being pretentious. My dad and I both decided to do the 3 course chefs tasting menu while my husband decided to order off the menu. We all received an amuse bouche of cucumber and almond oil soup which was very good. My dad even enjoyed it even though he didn't know what an amuse bouche was. First course on the tasting menu was a seared sea scallp with bacon sauce and lima bean puree. It was very good. The scallop was very fresh and the sauces complimented it very well. Second course was quail in a citrus glaze with spicy veggies. Amazing!!!! The quail was cooked perfectly and delicious! My husband was the winner at the table as he chose what he called a "study of pork." He ordered the pork loin which was to die for!! It came with some braised pork bellies that were outstanding!! His dessert was what sent me over the top....bannana fritters, chocolate mousse and CANDIED BACON. Yes, you heard me right...it was incredible. The waiter told us that he will be preparing this dish on Top Chef this season. It was absolutely outstanding. The salty, savory dish was perfectly balanced and everything was perfect. Not greasy or soggy...just creative and delicious. I found this meal to be a good value. It isn't cheap by any stretch but it was the best $45 3 course tasting menu I've ever had. The a la carte dishes were priced $25-$35 and the desserts were $6-$9...more than fair. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to experience fine dining without paying too much. I loved it!! Good luck on Top Chef Kevin!!!

It's a big straight party in here. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not my scene. I've been a few times with my roommate (who is straight) and some of his friends so I knew what I was getting into beforehand. It's actually a pretty cool interior and layout. The bar area is more of a lounge than an actual bar and does not come off as straight at all. Don't be surprised if some stranger starts dancing with you, or if you start dancing with her. Get into the moment and the atmosphere and go with it. Don't be afraid to show your straight side!

I'm new to the city and love to dance so I checked out the reviews to find a place I could go- a girl alone looking to shake her groove-thing, not get laid. The reviews for Cielo's Monday night scene led me to believe that this was THE spot for me! Old school house, a great friendly (but not too friendly) crowd and a really good time. So I decided to give it a try. I must preface this review by saying that I actually started out my early evening at the Library's two-for-one happy hour, so I'd already had one or two two-for-one's (but that's a whole other review!) before I made the decision to go dancing. I headed to the Meatpacking District for some dinner first at Pastis (pretty good hangar steak bernaise and frites at a reasonable price, surprisingly enough at the bar, and I got to see Matt Dillon, yes pony-boy himself, up close and personal- well, okay amidst his entourage of buddies, but still- Pony-boy!) I walked out of Pastis and went searching for Little West 12th. I walked all the way around the block before I realized I was actually STANDING on Little West 12th in the first place. Forgive me, I'm new. Once I found the joint, and after paying the $12 cover charge (on a Monday night????), I walked into a very intimate and cool club completely devoid of people save one lone dancer getting his groove on. I paid for my $10 glass of vodka and waited. Eventually things picked up but I have to say, I was rather disappointed in the music. This was not the old school house I was expecting! And rather chilly at first as well, but I chose to ignore that point and just stepped out on the dance floor. I eventually found a dancing buddy who actually wanted nothing but to dance with me and had a great time in spite of the music. I can even say I felt comfortable being there alone. Just not really very memorable, or funky, music-wise- two things I personally look for in a DJ. Ah well, I did get my ya-yas out for the night and I may even go back to find my dancing buddy again- a girl does need to get down every once in a while...
