So much fun! Good drinks and alot of dancing! My first time to a Spanish dancing place but absoloutly no pressure. Just get in there and boogie.

Vanguard is a legit club.  If you wanna party your ass off to the point where you can't function for the next few days, this is the spot!

I'm new to the city and love to dance so I checked out the reviews to find a place I could go- a girl alone looking to shake her groove-thing, not get laid.  The reviews for Cielo's Monday night scene led me to believe that this was THE spot for me!  Old school house, a great friendly (but not too friendly) crowd and a really good time.  So I decided to give it a try. I must preface this review by saying that I actually started out my early evening at the Library's two-for-one happy hour, so I'd already had one or two two-for-one's (but that's a whole other review!) before I made the decision to go dancing.  I headed to the Meatpacking District for some dinner first at Pastis (pretty good hangar steak bernaise and frites at a reasonable price, surprisingly enough at the bar, and I got to see Matt Dillon, yes pony-boy himself, up close and personal- well, okay amidst his entourage of buddies, but still- Pony-boy!) I walked out of Pastis and went searching for Little West 12th.  I walked all the way around the block before I realized I was actually STANDING on Little West 12th in the first place.  Forgive me, I'm new.  Once I found the joint, and after paying the $12 cover charge (on a Monday night????), I walked into a very intimate and cool club completely devoid of people save one lone dancer getting his groove on.  I paid for my $10 glass of vodka and waited.  Eventually things picked up but I have to say, I was rather disappointed in the music.  This was not the old school house I was expecting!  And rather chilly at first as well, but I chose to ignore that point and just stepped out on the dance floor.  I eventually found a dancing buddy who actually wanted nothing but to dance with me and had a great time in spite of the music.  I can even say I felt comfortable being there alone.  Just not really very memorable, or funky, music-wise- two things I personally look for in a DJ. Ah well, I did get my ya-yas out for the night and I may even go back to find my dancing buddy again- a girl does need to get down every once in a while...
