Rubulad was so good that 'the man' decided that it was unfit for human occupancy. Everyone was kicked out yesterday. Pray for the return of Rubulad. It is a treasure of NYC.

I've lived in the city for a little over a year now, and Clooney's is the 2nd closest bar near me, and I am just now giving it a shot. Four or five of the beers on tap were sold out, but they did have a pizza from newly-opened Pi Bar across the street and I got to try a slice of mushroom pepperoni--yum. Back to Clooney's, it's actually quite okay, friendly bartender, just a little too bright and a little too quiet. Yup, I'd come back. $4.25 beer on tap (decent selection).

Katsuya/Brentwood is one of my regular favorites....and so is Asia de Cuba and The Penthouse @ The Huntely. I also enjoy Foxtail, but it's a bit on the quiet side for my liking...and on the opposite end of the spectrum, looove, Mr. Cecil's BBQ in WLA....and when I heard about XIV opening, I wanted to try it, but the first opportunity I had was on the first Monday after opening, which any restaurant regular knows is usually a night to avoid eating out. A friend, however, wanted to get to get together on a Monday night, so, much to my chagrin, I made a reservation and I was glad I did...as it's one of the best restaurant experience I've had any where in the world, at any price...so much so that I'm writing this review, I had a great table, next to a fire place, for two at 6:45pm on a Monday night, everyone from the Hosteses (Emily took me around to show me the place....they're opening a patio bar at the end of this month), servers (Angela was fantastic) to the General Manager (Ryan Cole) couldn't have been more pleasant, professional or accommodating. We ordered chef's selection (Light Selection w/ 8 dishes for $55/ea), which was a real pleasant surprise. The "Bread" XIV brings is warm/fresh/fluffy Naan bread w/ super chilled dipping cheese (to die for...I could have just made a meal of that w/ drinks)...and every dish they brought was delicate and delicious. I was more than satisfied, despite my being not the lightest eater...The progression of tastes, textures and experiences, I don't think, could have been better. Now, normally, I find that servers or the restaurants don't pace prix fixe meals well...mostly too fast, at the pace I like to enjoy my food w/ my companions....and, thus, don't like ordering prix fixe menus. Angela, on the other hand, told us to take our time and that she'll only bring the next course, only when she saw that we're ready...and it's almost as if she had a camera above our table, because, never once did either me or my friend feel rushed or, worse, become frustrated by slow service. She, along w/ all the other staff who were there to help her serving us were amazing. As you might guess from my "regular" restaurants (w/ the exception of Mr. Cecil's), I enjoy restaurants with nice environments, but I like restaurants w/ energy...and XIV didn't disappoint....and, yet, it was easy to carry on a normal conversation, but one didn't have to feel self-conscious, laughing out loud, either. initially, when I checked-out the website and saw the sketches of the interior, I was skeptical, thinking that it might be a bit too stuffy for my taste. In actuality, it felt luxurious, but not pretentious nor stuffy. The entire eclectic environment felt comfortable and relaxing...and the chairs and bench seating were actually comfortable than those at Katsuya...The table/chair arrangements also seemed much more flexible for different sizes of parties, which is great for me, as I always have varying number of guests. I felt it's one of those rare restaurants that would be great for both dates and for light business dinners. My compliments, too, to Ryan Cole and his entire management team, as the entire staff exude friendliness and professionalism....w/o a hint of snobbery. Incredible for a restaurant which had been opened for only few days. Since this is in the heart of Sunset Blvd, customers came in all range of dress. Guys w/ shirts hanging out over jeans to others in ties and jackets...and women in jeans to dressed-to-kill. For those girls not familiar w/ SBE restaurants, however, note: the hostesses are as slim as they come w/ long legs and dressed in black. As to the tab, it's not inexpensive, as even though our Prix Fixe menu item was only $55/person, the total came out to be $199.74 w/ drinks...after tip, just under $240 for two people...Then, when you add $14/car for valet parking, plus $2 tip..and since we came in 2 separate cars, that adds $32, just for parking, totaling $272 for two people. It was, however, worth every penny....and XIV will definitely be one of my favorites....and regular. My compliments to SBE for another great restaurant !
