WE. WERE. EARLY. i repeat. EARLY!! woo. okay. thank goodness for that. if you dont want to be in front of the stage, save yourself from a neck ache and claim a spot on the stairs by the bar...HOWEVER, the probability of being in close proximity to a group of d-bags who will NOT shut up through out KT Tunstall's acoustic set will increase greatly. HELLO! im trying to have a moment here... anyhoo, im a fan.

This place is adorable and I'll come back but both times I've been, the service has been very slow. Last time, we had to wait almost 40 minutes after we finished for the check. We weren't in a rush but it was hard to get the server's attention and I was getting sleepy. They have comfy couches that may have also added to my fatigue. The first time I went with a group and one friend arrived later. The server did notice and come over right away to take her order...he just never came back with her wine! Eventually we flagged him down and immediately he felt bad. We were cool though. He had to come back again to remember what she ordered. When he finally brought it out, he told her it was on the house. We weren't expecting that, but nice! So slow service, but good service. They have a decent selection of wines, and their house red (which comes in a carafe amounting to about a glass and a half), is a yummy tempranillo instead of the typical blah cab or merlot. I approve of that.

I lucked out + went to Element for an exclusive "Free Night of Theater NY" after party October 16 . No lines to get in the door, no lines at the bar, no elbow-to-elbow inside. And a GREAT crowd of people who had all just been (or were planning to go) to a free show as part of the inaugural year of "Free Night" New York. So it wasn't a typical day at the club, but even knowing this, I wanted to go back again. In its past lives, Element has been a bank, the studio of Jasper Johns, a strip club, a goth club, a hip hop club. There was a particular dj--in training apparently--who added to the ambience. And a "strict dress code" which is not explained anywhere...!
