Ok, so I hadn't been clubbing for a while (the ex wasn't much of a dancer) and this is the first spot I'd hit up in a very long time. Lets see if I can make this helpful for anyone looking to go to this place. Location: Just a couple blocks away from Staples Center and LA Live, this building has amazing architecture. I love the Mayan theme throughout (hence the name "The Mayan"). Cover charge is $10 before 10:30 and I highly suggest you show up by that time. I think $20 is a bit much to pay for this place...maybe $15, but not $20. I went on a Saturday night. Sound: Decent sound system throughout the rooms. Top floor (more like a hallway when you think about it) plays a mix of bachata, cumbia and some pop, main floor (the happening area) plays a mix of top-40, hip hop and a live band (which was my favorite part). Bottom floor is for hip-hop. The top and bottom floors have very poor ventilation. I couldn't be in there for more than 15-20 minutes without having to step out for some air. It gets hot and sweaty in those two rooms. Bar: A bit understaffed. It took me about 5 min (which is a bit long on my watch) to get one drink. My date claimed to have gotten a free drink while I paid $9 for an Adios. Decent strength and a good size for a cocktail. Didn't buy any beer so I can't speak about that. The crowd was varied. A mix of ethnicities, ages and backgrounds. You find your hot younger girls, the cougars, the ones trying REALLY hard to stay young and the same goes for the guys. A variety of hispanics, blacks, asians. Overall, I was pleased with this spot for a night out. Not the best but definitely not the worst place around. If you're not satisfied, Conga Room is just around the corner so you can go hopping if you like.

4-star rating based purely on the major events they have. There's no place else I'd rather be on Halloween. On other occasions, I don't like clubbing much and I'm not into "specific" crowds on certain nights, but the GM and promoter have my heart, so I am forever loyal. TRUE STORY. -1 star because the bar staff really screwed us. I'm a bartender, too, so on busy nights, I completely understand the madness. But, besides the fact that one (or more) of their bartenders didn't appear completely sober, he/she gave our credit card and ID to someone else at the end of the night. Then when we tried to close out, they left us waiting 30+ minutes (NO EXAGGERATION) and when we refused to leave a tip because of their carelessness and incompetency, they tried to "trick" us into signing an increased tab (w/ added gratuity). When we got upset, they kicked us out. They really messed w/ the wrong people on the wrong night. I don't blame the club or even the staff. It was a mistake that caused a HUGE inconvenience. Canceling a credit card and a trip to the DMV for a replacement license is NOT my idea of a good time. But again, it was more how they tried to "solve" the problem by trying to trick us and then having us kicked out. WTF? It's like they say, "It's not the crime; it's the cover-up."

Asia SF is a restaurant that employs trannies as their waitresses. Translation: they are men dressed up as women. So if you are a homophobe or have issues with this, I do not recommend you go to Asia SF. The food is not that great and the prices are a little high for what I would expect. If you plan to check out Asia SF, set reservations!! Also, get ready for a great performance during dinner. I recommend a drink they have which includes Remy, Champagne and I believe OJ. It was a tad pricey but extremely delicious. I had to drink about 5 of those because they were so tasty! Ok, I was trying to get through this review without admitting it, but the guys actually look like girls. I actually was checking out a girl's butt until she turned around and I was in shock! I still get crap from my friends about that and I don't think it'll ever stop. Bottom line, it's a great place to go for their entertainment as well as being a wonderful experience. The food is OK and the prices are a little steep. If you have an open mind, I highly recommend Asia SF . . . not for the food, but for the experience. Only in SF baby . . . or should I rephrase it as . . . Only in (Asia) SF.
