Let me get this out of the way while I wait for Donita to finish preparing my petition for filing tomorrow. Fourteen is certainly better than Mina's place in Vegas. That place was a disaster. Did the XIV Chef's tasting menu this weekend, and while I enjoyed it more than the Vegas experience, it still didn't measure up to Mina's SF flagship. The initial offerings were very well done. Creative and tasty. The sashimi was tasty-fresh with just the right amount of spice. The peach salad was 'lick the plate' good. I think the ravioli sat in the water for too long, but I don't cook, so what do I know. The proteins were good. Just good, though. Well seasoned and tender, but nothing to crave instead of eating In N Out. The dessert was disappointing. Some hazelnut conconction that would have worked better with something citrusy on the side. Would I do it again? Yeah. Maybe get something outside of the tasting menu or at least wait for the Chef's Tasting Menu to change from its summer offerings. Oh yeah. There was a slight delay for our 3rd course, so they comped us 6 fresh oysters on a half-shell. I salute you, Mr. Manager. Great drinks. Even the after-dinner coffee. It kept me up til 5 a.m.

Last month Parish hosted The Big Gay Supper Club for brunch (yes you read that right... sometimes we meet for brunch) and it was awesome. Several of my friends and fellow rateclubsers had recommended Parish to me, so I was glad to finally have the opportunity to visit. Parking wasn't as hard as I thought. I found a place on the street, but there is ample free parking behind the restaurant. Walking inside is a neat experience as they have beads strung up inside the door. We had the entire back of the restaurant reserved and the table service was great. I'm not sure if everything we ate was part of the menu or specially prepared. Regardless, I'm sure the menu is as great as our choices... I especially liked the Parish Benedict (the description made me laugh - "... served over beef debris"). Thanks for a great experience and I look forward to next time.

This is a top-knotch place. My first impression was a good one when I called to make a reservation for 8 and the person on the other end was super professional and friendly, asking me what the occasion would be for. This same host greeted us upon arrival and had the same great attitute and level of professionalism. Ambiance--very classy and warm. I loved the "test tube" light bulbs hanging everywhere, the bar area with the huge wall of wine bottles, and the big original loft windows overlooking the big grassy field for the power plant. Part of the crowd was a slightly older group (40s and 50s), while the other part of the crowd was prom-goers and bachelorette parties. From the bar I ordered a Lavendar Martini made with gin, lavendar and lemon. It was really, really good. From the menu I ordered the "three from the garden" off the app list as my actual meal. It was great as well. My husband got the chicken served over pappardelle pasta which he devoured. Others at the table got steak & frites, a burger, risotto balls, and tons of other stuff. Everyone agreed that their dish was delicious. I didn't get to try this part of the menu, but I couldn't help but be attracted to the "bottomless wine" lists sectioned off into $22, $32, $42 and $52 based on the quality of the wine. I will definitely be going back for that!! For dessert I tried a bite of my friend's caramel apple tart. It was the best apple dessert I'd ever put in my mouth. The caramel sauce was real (cooked sugar), nothing out of a jar. I actually prefer the food a little bit better at their sister restaurant, Two Urban Licks, but other than that you definitely need to go to One. It would be a great place to take a date.
