Apparently, my friend and I stopped by the Players drive-thru and got burgers last night. Do I remember? No, because I was in a 4th of July blackout, exercising my constitutional right to get utterly wasted. This is going to sound really bad, I know...but I don't think I've ever been to Players sober. Before you send me packing off to Dr. Drew, realize that I'm always with my friend Trouble at this place. We always drink when we're together. So, by the transitive property, I will always be drunk at Players. I take it back. I have been here once before when I was sober. I can't remember details, but I'll never forget this friend of a friend joined my friends and me that evening. He was absolutely, positively gorgeous. Model quality gorgeous. And super nice. And super smart. And damn it...super straight. He somehow made eating a cheeseburger look sexy. So Players in an odd way always reminds me of something I can't have. And that sort of irritates me. I order the double bacon cheeseburger and a side of fries; sometimes if I want to live dangerously I'll order a chocolate milkshake. From what I remember last night, the cheeseburgers were decent, although I'm not too crazy about the fries. It would seem I was not too crazy about using a napkin either, because this morning I had burger grease all over my baby blue Calvin Klein summer shirt. I swear I'm not usually a mess. How I spent $22.00 on food for two people remains a mystery. Anyways, Players serves a purpose. 3 stars.

Picture this: Sitting at a cozy table for four in a room with excellent acoustics and pleasing architecture. Being served amazing Japanese food while drinking delicious cocktails, fifteen feet away from first-rate live music. (In this case, Keren Ann and Dean & Britta) Five-star evening all around. UPDATE: Went back for Chicago Afrobeat Project which was also fantastic. Only heard good things from others who've been to shows as well!
