by Downtown M. on Behold, The Box, in its latter years. Gone are the days when overpriced booths are free to celebrities and VIP's. Gone are the days when cool NYC indie hipsters walk in freely, while normal human beings stand waiting for hours, desperate to get in. Gone are the days when owner Simon H. can walk around town like he owns it (really?) Those days are gone. Now, when you go to The Box, it is a frat party with little boys and girls squeezing through from the different tunnels, paying ridiculous amounts of money, trying to relive a time they were heavily excluded from. Sorry folks, The Box is dead. It's cataloged with other things tacky that should have never existed in NYC.
by Norman Alway on I have driven by here about 100 times and have always wondered what went on "behind closed doors," so with family recently in town, and in tow, we headed to Shout for some cocktails! The atmosphere was very energetic! The interior was trendy (low lights, light brick red walls), and the music was great (think a restaurant that Carrie and Samantha would go to in "Sex in the City!"). Our bar server was very friendly and when I asked to look at a menu (we had already eaten elsewhere), I was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices were not as bad as I had assumed. One whole side of the menu was also devoted to sushi. There were a number of large groups seated for dinner, as well as an area off to the side for couples, or parties of 3-4 people. This is a great place to meet for drinks or dinner!
