by Yvonne D. on I came here on a Friday night around 7:00 PM without a reservation with a couple of friends who were from out of town. The host was nice enough to seat us, but he told us we could only stay for two hours. That was understandable, considering we didn't make reservations. My friends and I ordered two rounds of the $5 house margaritas which were definitely worth it. They do not hold back on the tequila, that's for sure! The chips and dips were delicious and it was nice that they offer a variety-two types of salsas and hot bean dip. I shared an order of the top sirloin tacos with my boyfriend and were really satisfied. The only thing that kept me from giving Velvet Margarita 5 stars was that after we had finished eating, the waiters kept asking us if we were done and trying to clean off our table as a means to give us a hint to go. I know I should have made reservations, but it would have been nice to not feel rushed out and enjoy ourselves some more. Other than that, Velvet Margarita is a great place for cheap $5 house margaritas and the atmosphere is fantastic. I know other rateclubsers have commented on the decor, but I'll mention how cool it is too! The Mexican decor is unlike any other cantinas I've been to. Although it is sort of dark, it goes with the whole Mexican/ Day of the Dead vibe. This place is definitely worth experiencing!
