$5 Martinis on Friday Nights (Delicious)... We went on an exploration to find this place. I am very familiar with the midtown area but hadn't seen Kat's Cafe although it is right off of 10th and Piedmont. It is tucked in amongst the houses and has limited parking. Anyway, we went with a few friends to hear their friend's band play (confusing, I know). It was a cold rainy night and the coziness of the bar was perfect, the lights were dim and it just had a really good vibe. We were all snuggled comfortably into our seats listening to great music. ...So, we were among great friends and would have had a good time regardless there were a few downfalls.... The service was lacking, in a big way. It took 15 minutes to get a drink and when we ordered food only half of it showed up. The other half had been "forgotten". We re-placed the order and waited 40 minutes. When it did arrive, it was just okay, nothing to write about. I was a little disappointed but I give 3 stars for the atmosphere and 1 for the service. I will definitely give it another chance, it may have just been a bad night for our server, I hope that was the case.

I've only been once and it was a long time ago which is very disappointing, especially considering how close this place is. I remember a pretty decent meal with a crazy bread basket. I was really excited to see they had a particularly bottle of Sicilian wine as I had brought back the same one from Italy and did not think it was available in the U.S. That was definitely an awesome surprise. Anyway, it's definitely worth checking out and better than Two Urban Licks in my opinion. 4

I got a reservation over a long weekend. I really didn't expect Mr. Morimoto to be there, but he was! I sat quite close to the sushi bar and realized it was a total mistake not to sit at the bar--I wanted to observe how the Iron Chef made his signature dishes. Also, he gave out free samples of his food to customers at the sushi bar. I ordered the chef's special ($100 one). It was great. Morimoto's cuisine is certainly not 100% traditional Japanese (he admits so), but it's good. Further, Karim Rashid's interior design is a joy to watch.
