by Jessica N. on My convo with Jefe R.... "i've been waiting for a bar like that since i moved back to austin 3 years ago. the menu of yum yums, the el diabo...specialty beers, oak barrels, metal art, old movies...a bartender with a rat tail.... (does it get any better than that?)" This was an explanation to a compliment regarding his great review of this place. I noticed so many fine details tonight. The tables and bar stools were custom made. The bartender served his drinks to the waitress THROUGH an oak barrell. He used a mallet to provide fresh crushed ice for my cocktail. The beers were all specialty. The food sources are local and described so delightfully and intense. Prices are reasonable, 6 dollars for a specialty drink and $3.50 for a micro brewery brewsky. I even liked the front doors, old hardwoods, rustic chandeliers and the classic tunes playing all around. They even had these vintage metal wall squares along the kitchen. Attentive staff, paintings, red lights along the bar and this effervescent feeling of creativity all around you. Every single detail was noticed and appreciated. It's that attention to detail that will make East Side Show Room shine amongst the fickle and the unique.
by Nila Gellert on Haha I agree, "asian meat market"...I'm not crazy about this place, it's a little cheesy, especially when you compare it to the korean clubs in LA.
by Laura H. on We hit up Luckie Food Lounge last night (Sunday) for a Girls Night Out. The bar was quiet, but there were quite a few people seated at tables for late on a Sunday. Very nice wine selection - but I was suprised by the small number of "specialty drinks" for this type of scene. We had a calamari appetizer, which was excellent. I chose the Chilean Sea Bass entree, which was tasty but a bit on the salty side. Other girls ordered Luckie Tuna (sushi- yum!), Scallops with polenta (also yum) and Shrimp and Grits ( I didn't taste this one, but she cleaned her plate!). For dessert we had white chocolate bread pudding (good, but the macadamia nuts were on the large side) and Chocolate Pyramid (very rich, not my favorite). It was a bit on the pricey side. We had 2 servers, which led me to believe that 1 of them was in training, since he seemed less knowledgable. The atmosphere was fun for a Girls Night. Overall, we enjoyed the evening, but it won't neccesarily be at the top of my list for a return visit.
