Um... what the hell, rateclubsers? I wanted to try this place so badly after reading all the great reviews.  The only good thing I have to say about my experience was the service and the ambiance.  Food was not good, overpriced, and tiny portions.  We cut the meal short and got REAL food.

I was skeptical about trying out Golden Temple, but my dining partner was so enthusiastic about going here. I am admittedly picky when it comes to eating at Chinese restaurants, but he assured me that I would not be disappointed. Amazingly, I was pleasantly surprised by the food and impressed by the service. We were seated immediately on the "left" dining area (our choice)...this area seemed to be where the late night action was (my conclusion after eyeing the bar and dance floor). For an appetizer, we shared the crab rangoon. I don't normally like crab rangoon, but it was a night of letting go of my food inhibitions. The crab rangoon was EXCELLENT...I've never actually tasted crab meat inside one before, and it tasted so great. This dish included a set of 8 crab rangoon, along with two dipping sauces (sweet duck sauce and a spicy mustard). The spicy mustard almost killed me when I tried it...it was as if I swallowed a chunk of wasabi-- painful. Thus, I stuck with using a speck of mustard along with a dollop of duck sauce with my crabby bites. Our beverages were also made really well. I stuck with the Lichee Martini throughout the evening while my date enjoyed his Mai Tai, then hot sake. Asian restaurants never fail with their drink mixology. However, Golden Temple does price them on a higher scale (around $10 per cocktail, $6/7 minimum for the sake). For our entree, we feasted on a whole Beijing Duck, which (as described on GT's website) is marinated, grilled until golden crispy, carved and classically presented with meat separated from the skin; also served with Mandarin pancakes and hoisin sauce. This presentation took about 30 minutes for the kitchen to prepare, and it is priced at $38.95 for the whole duck. (They also offer a half duck to order as an option.) The fun aspect of being served this dish was the fact that our waiter plated the wraps for us. He assembled the wraps by giving the warm Mandarin pancakes a layer of hoisin sauce; then, adding slices of duck to the pancake; then, topping the duck with the pickled carrots and cilantro. He then folded the pancakes into perfect wraps. He encouraged us to begin eating while he continued creating his masterpieces. After making three wraps for each of us, we stopped him because 1) we felt badly that he was so intent on creating so many wraps while we were eating, and 2) they are very filling anyway. I couldn't eat more than two wraps because I was so full, but they were so delicious. The duck was cooked very well, and the balance between everything in the wraps was perfect. In addition to the duck, we had ordered the Shanghai Bok Choy, which was stirfried with garlic. We had also ordered white rice at the start of the meal, but I think they forgot about it. That was more than okay with us though, because the duck wraps and bok choy were more than enough to fill us. I found the bok choy to be slightly overcooked with too much of the garlic gravy soaking in it. Nonetheless, the meal was very satisfying, and it made me question my biase against Chinese restaurants. I guess I will have to rethink how I perceive oriental restaurants--at least the upper scale ones. My experience at Golden Temple was excellent, and I hope to return again soon. Their service was fantastic; the waitstaff and manager were accommodating and warming. However, our meal WAS on the expensive side; so, this would have to be an establishment that I would only frequent every once in a while.
