by david b. on i love this place because 1 it is cheap for drinks. two the people greeting you are extremely friendly. three the bartenders are helpful. i have gotten to know everybody here since i go almost every weekend so that is a plus. the scorpion bowls are good and they get you feeling great and a little tipsy. the dance floor on the the third floor is usually crowded and the people you meet up there are generally nice. the best time to go is on a Friday or Saturday night but it get more crowded when school is in session. the only downfall is that there isn't a coat check, and i put my coat down somewhere and somebody walked off with it. this is a great place to go if you are in Harvard square
by Ira Dinucci on Last weekend a friend wanted to celebrate his birthday with dancing and general craziness, and for some reason he picked Tonic. The night ended up being really fun, but that may have just been because I was with a large group of fun people ;) Tonic is basically just dance floor and bar, there is sort of a "lounge" area, but it is less than inviting (skuzzy looking couches, bright lighting) The bathrooms are in the basement and were pretty standard club bathrooms - i.e. not that clean or well taken care of. I'm not sure if it is every night, but the night I was there it was 18 and over. The crowd did seem to be mostly those 18 years old to maybe mid 20's, and mostly there to dance, drink and grind on strangers on the dance floor. It was fairly empty when we got there (10ish) but by 11 it was packed, and stayed that way till we left. Overall, not a swanky or fancy place, and nothing really special about it, but if all you want to do is dance, have some drinks and be crazy with your friends, it isn't all that bad.
