A surprisingly good experience. Came here on a thurs night- plus it was restaurant (month).... Packed. Loud. Trendy. blah. Lobster Wontons. yum. Squab lettuce wraps. yum. peking duck fried rice. yum, and big portion couldn't finish it. my boyfriend had the lobster friend rice. that was spicy and tasy as well. Service, decor, atmosphere is all one could want on a good night out. Although, while we were waiting at the bar area for our table it was packed in pretty tightly. I saw a group getting up about to leave and i was about to score us some seats when some white brunette looked at me and said "we're sitting there." WTF. what the hell entitled her to those seats over us? I'm just nice and nodded bc i knew my boyfriend would have gotten mad if i had started something. But anyway, whatever. That's exactly what i'd expect from white people trying to eat asian food. No i am not racist.

The Goal: A location for a birthday party with some atmosphere, good drinks, good music and great people. bOb Bar had been recommended and well reviewed here on rateclubs, as well as in other locations online. Phone calls were placed and arrangements made with Stan, the owner. First Impression: We didn't know exactly to what to expect, as no one had actually checked out the location in advance, but what we found was a bit shocking. bOb Bar was easy to find at the corner of Eldridge and Stanton, but the place was tiny... So small I assumed there was more space upstairs or down -- wrong. We'd been told we would have some tables for our group. When pointed out, there were a few tiny tables in the corner surrounded by other patrons. As more friends showed, we actually ended up filling what felt like most of the bar. The Specifics: The drinks at bOb were pretty cheap, $8 for a vodka / tonic. But the place was so packed you spilled your drink, or were spilled on, before you could actually enjoy it. The DJ was horrendous. I pleaded with him to play some music from this decade, but he continued to play pretty dated stuff. We still danced and had fun, but it was definitely not what we were expecting. Final Analysis: Our night turned out well because life is what you make of it, but the success had little to do with bOb Bar! If you're looking for a small, cramped, strangely lit space down on the LES (the lights around the sides of the room were so bright we had to ask for them to turn them down), then check it out. But for a special occasion, I think bOb's atmosphere is a bit too hip hop, but without the bling.

Suade is definitely the place to visit if you want to experience the following: 1) Worthless 50 cent drinks being marked up to $10... The drinks here are really cheap but marked up to obscene prices. The bartenders are scum that essentially use the cheapest alcohol they can find... I had a long island, which tasted like Coke & sweet and sour mix minus the alcohol... the strongest mixed drink in the house was like the tamest... 2) Bouncers that essentially kick everyone out at 1:30 AM... but not just that, keep pushing you out so that you're no where near Suede at all. Our group was pushed all the way out till we had to cross the street and we weren't even in front of Suede. Me: "Some of our friends are still back there in front of Suede". Bouncer: "That's no problem, just cross the street so that you're as far away from this sidewalk as possible and you can wait for your friends there." Me: "Ok, that sounds fair..." And I just ignored the degenerate and walked back in front of Suede to my buddies... Funny how he was just staring me down as I walked past his ugly face. 3) One of the most pretentious clubs in San Francisco. 4) The crowd was mostly the "aggressive" "I gots azn pride" variety... the ones that "think der betta den u cuz they hav mo $$$ den u"... immature dorks that seriously need a reality check. 5) Mostly dudes... ones that don't know how to dance without elbowing everyone within a 10 foot radius... Good times... This was my first and the very last visit to Suede... There are a ton of good clubs in San fran... mostly in the Mission... if you're looking for clubs in like North beach... check out Dolce...
