This place is far off the beaten path. Let me just start with that. If you can get past that, you're in good shape. Here for a birthday party a few weeks ago, I was actually somewhat impressed. I think it must have been an off-night because the place was pretty empty and from reading other reviews it sounds like it can get busy. But when we were here there was plenty of space for: - dancing - lounging / space to sit - the hot bartender to dance on top of the back bar - drinking - talking with friends Now I'm not usually one to dance, but for those of you who are rhythmically inclined, there was space for it. Most importantly I was able to chat with my friends and actually hear them. The beer selection was just alright and I ended up drinking Blue Moon all night -- not my top choice, but respectable. It's not quite a pub (case in point: dancing) but it's certainly not at the level of a lounge. A MUCH better option than Anchor, which is the overflowing sweat-lounge next door. It was not pretentious at all, there was no line, no cover, drinks weren't really overpriced and overall it was a good choice for a birthday party, as long as your friends are willing to come all the way out there -- because it is especially a hike from the east side. Unless you are already close to SoHo, you may have some convincing to do.

An absolutely beautiful music venue. I have been meaning to write a review after seeing The National play there about a week ago. It's not just the gorgeous interior that makes this place so wonderful...it's the crowd. Unlike a lot of other venues I have been to recently, most of the the crowd was really cool, older, and seriously music loving....save one guy who honestly wouldn't shut the "&^%$" for most of the show. Here's Karma for you though...after the show, he was actually stopping and saying goodbye to people he very obviously didn't know who were hanging out on the sidewalk, offering up high fives (no kidding) to all his 'chiefs', and right after his attempts with my friend, turned around and walked straight into a parking meter. It looked like it hurt. We hoped it did. Not sure if this is true, but I heard the owners don't make money on the venue, but keep it going because of it's history and their obvious love of live music. You have to love that and them.

Some of my friends throw a regular party @ Roe & my experience is always good. Except last Friday, I like the decor & the bouncers are friendly. Now the not so good part. It's only 10:30 PM, the caucasian bartender on the main floor was so awful. Yelling @ everyone ordering drinks, major attitudes - my hennessy shot glass have crack in it. Good thing, I saw it before I injured myself.....my advice to this person is if u can't handle the pressure don't be a bartender, no TIPS for u! while her Asian bartender counterpart was as slow as the molasses. Girlfriend took about 1/2 hour just to finished the guy's orders - totalling 4 drinks - geez by the time she got to us our buzzed were gone. Before midnight, girls bathroom rans out of toilet paper & paper towel....so dirty...yuck! The only good thing that happened that nite no matter how sucky the service was, we made it as fun as possible. It's going to be awhile before I party again @ Roe.
