I've heard soooo much about h.wood, mostly from people talking about how it was on The Hills (which btw, it was shown on the show for like .2 seconds), and how exclusive it is and how all the celebs party here during the week. There was even papparazzi hanging around outside waiting for some famous folks to arrive! ANyway it's kinda hard to find this spot if you park in the hollywood/highlands structure, but after you find it and get inside, it's a really fantastic place. Very dark and woodsy, with an open roof, lots of bars, and couches and chairs to sit. Bartenders were friendly and attentive, had some great shots and drinks. Everyone looked like they were having fun, the dance floor was packed. I loved it here!
by Marshall Balint on Went to Kress Wednesday night with 11 friends. The place was absolutely dead. There were only about 25 people in the entire restaurant, no kidding. We had two waiters and two assistants for our 12 people. They were nice, but very pushy. They kept coming out saying, "the kitchen made an extra one of these... is anybody interested?" That makes me think it could be complementary, and the way he said it made lots of us think it could be free. Luckily we asked the first time and he said, "Uh.. no.". WTF would we want something "extra, that the kitchen made" if we didn't order it! Drinks were OK at the bar, but pretty expensive. I had the triple filet with gouda croquet. Food was quite good and was the right size, though priced like it was a much bigger portion. Bill for 12 people was $710, so about $60 per person - and that was without drinks. Everyone bought their own drinks at the bar, so it was probably closer to about $90 per person with drinks. Gratuity was auto included at 20%, which is kind of high for an auto gratutuity now matter how good or bad they were. Parking's a disaster. This is supposed to be a great hot spot. Maybe on a Friday or Saturday, but not on a Wednesday. I give 2 stars cuz the food was good. Not sure I would go back.
by Susan W. on I've come here for lunch a few times and have enjoyed the 5-spice chicken dish with coconut rice and cucumber salad each time. It's a good price and just the right portion for me. My colleague shared a slice of his naan pizza which was also quite good. He raved about the accompanying salad. I've always arrived at the early side of the lunch crowd and have been seated immediately each time. The dining room is rather small, however, so it fills by about 12:30.
