by Elisha Lower on Found VMC here on rateclubs, while looking for a place to go before seeing Dirty Dancing at the Pantages. Our rezzies were right at 6 (opening time) on Saturday - we were shown our table right away, and our waiter, Travis was at our table within seconds. Our group of four ladies ordered the guacamole fresca for appetizer - perfect with the chips and salsa/bean dip freebie. Two of us ordered drinks from the bar, I had the Royal Velvet (YUM) and another ordered the Blue Velvet (her only comment was that it was a tad strong). Dinner came next... the three with me all ordered the chicken enchiladas, which they said were VERY good. I had the Salmon de Martin, which was fantastic. All the food was very fresh, and very hot. Oh, and I had the Shrimp Tequila Bisque, which was a spicy start to my meal. We didn't go into the bar itself, but you could see the oversized screens above the partition - so we watched Elvis' Fun in Acapulco while we dined. Can't wait to take hubby back - its a fun place to go. The booths are very spacious - VMC made good use of their limited space without cramming more tables in. BTW, I HIGHLY recommend rezzies - as we were walking out around 7:15, I heard the Maitre'd tell a new arrival that a table would be 1-1/2 hour wait.
by Merle Vertucci on Great place to find you're favorite DJ's and hip bands. Always good music and great sound system to match the talent that this place attracts. Pre-order your tickets, as shows tend to sell out and door prices are steep when available. Be prepared for crowds; everyone knows and loves Avalon. This place could easily double it's space and still sell out. Check their site on-line for advance tickets and super low rates on all the best DJ's in town.
by Sven S. on 1 star for the nice door person. I guess a lot of people complain about them. Perfectly polite to me. 2 star for the cool interior, bathrooms, and quick bar service. 0 stars for the crowd and ambiance. Problem was that it was a "special event" on a Saturday and it was empty. Not entirely empty. But empty enough to be like - what's going on here. Not sure how they'll stay in business if it keeps up. If I pay a substantial cover and jump through the hoops I'm going to hope the place is crowded.
