I just got from lunch from Cafe Lift, and this little cafe is sweet. It's half a block from Prohibition Taproom and has been on my list of places to go for some time. It's only open for brunch and lunch, and the menu is quite limited. It's a bummer that I forgot to take pictures. Lift markets itself as a "Euro style cafe" but basically only serves up salads and paninis. Is that euro-style? Despite this, there were a few really good options for the sandwiches, from salmon to prosciutto along with the one token veggie option. I had the Cubano sandwich with grilled pork, smoked ham and pefectly caramelized onions. Top that with fontina cheese and aioli, and you have one delicious sandwich. I had to conciously make myself slow down because it tasted so good. My sandwich was served with mixed greens on the side with a drop of salad dressing. Overall, it was a weak side dish. Our server was mostly attentive, with the only slip up being a few minutes in between the sandwiches being delivered. That can always be awkward for a second. Cafe Life has a pretty nice modern atmosphere, and sets a few tables outside with umbrellas when it's nice outside, which I love. This place also serves up brunch, but from the limited lunch menu, I'm guessing that brunch doesn't feature anything outstanding. Bottom Line: The prices are great here, the food is really good, and it's realatively close to where I work. It's a great little spot, but it's not about to become your new favorite cafe. Still, the paninis are well crafted and it's a great light lunch on a beautiful day.

Last night's Dar Williams concert marked my first time at the Great American Music Hall, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had no expectations of the venue, and I thought it was great -- so did my S.O. The concert was general admission, and we were lucky enough to get there in time to grab some seats in the balcony area almost directly in line with the stage. We had several drinks -- a lemon drop martini, another strong mixed drink with lots of lime, and a Bombay tonic. Yum. I felt very sophisticated sitting in the elegant balcony area with my martini. The acoustics in the Hall were fantastic. Could easily hear Shawn Mullins and Dar Williams -- no echoes, no garbled lyrics. Pleasant crowd -- after all, this wasn't a rock concert. LOVED the carved ceilings, and it felt like the Hall held lots of history and secrets. Minus one star for poor air circulation -- it was HOT in there! Dar was charming as usual, and I would follow her anywhere. I'd definitely follow her again to the Great American Music Hall, as I really enjoyed my experience.

3.5 Stars Damn so much hate for this place lol. Ok I'll start with the bad, yeah I guess you can call this club "ghetto" both inside and out. Its in the tenderlion so the streets are gonna smell like hot piss and you'll be surrounded by crack heads and homeless people. -Yes it can get hot as hell in here for some reason, I know sometimes they run fans around the dance floor but that doesn't help for shit most of the time. -Expensive drinks, but I don't buy drinks. Do what I do and get wasted in the car with friends and then line up to get inside. -If your a girl you're gonna get your ass grabbed on by some random dudes. - $20 cover, no way would I pay 20 to get in here. - 4 out of 5 times a couple fights are gonna break out but it might be 2 girls fighting so you might see some titties floppin! Now that we got that bad out of the way, I just wanna say that this club (from atleast my experience) does a really good job of honoring the guestlist. Every time I've been here I never had to pay cover since I was on the guestlist. Also this club is always filled with people on saturday nights, but it stops being fun when it gets TOO crowded. Good music on both floors, and some of the girls here are not stuck-up and self centered and don't mind dancing with dudes. I seen some complaints about the bouncers but I personally never had problems with them. But they will kick you out if they catch you falling/slipping down the stairs to the bottom floor (whether your drunk or not). So all in all, if the "ghetto crowd" is not your style then stay far away from this place on saturday nights. But this place is good in my books!
