by Williams Feltman on The only reason we got in is due to being on 'the list' so my review is already going to be askew. I believe it was the owner's birthday party or something because this place was packed to the gills and the music was extremely loud and kind of obnoxious. Which is fine because due to being on the list, we were treated like STARS! First, the Dom was liberally poured into my glass. Not once did I set it down due to the heavy hand of the attractive servers. My glass was literally grabbed from my hand and filled to the brim with yet more Dom. So I didn't even a drop a dime in here... The decor was nice, the word 'catacombs' was dropped a few times and got a few upskirt views due to the low-lying mirrored tables. Yes, there was Eurotrash-I had to assert my space due to the aggressive chest pumping. Overall, I consider myself a fan.
by Amanda S. on I just read Andrew B's review, and wanted to chime in as well. El Sol y La Luna is NOT good. And I agree wholeheartedly that a Mexican restaurant that wants to compete in this town should never charge for chips & salsa. When my friends and I ate there, one of our group asked for some jalapeno slices to go with her lunch. They charged her $1.00 for them!!!!! A buck for a few slices of jalapeno! Ridiculous. Plus, the food's not good enough that you can overlook these details. There are way too many other choices for Mexican, be it interior Mexican, Tex-Mex, or any other kind of Mex. One more quibble: $1.00 off drinks that are already $6.00 does not make a very happy Happy Hour.
by Scott Bucks on I hate hate hate paying covers for clubs, and I was skeptical when I found out the cover for Roe was going to be $20 - so no star for that. The place itself is nice, there's 3 floors...2 for dancing and 1 for lounging, which I thought was kinda neat but the downside to all of that is you can only get to them by certain stairs and the whole exit route is sort of confusing - so no star for that either, haha. Other than the cover and the random layout, I had a good time. Drinks were the same as any nicer place in the city, so no surprise there. The bartenders were nice and did their best with the large crowds. Downstairs is easier to get a drink than in the top floor. Soo all in all, I'd come here again, I had a good time :) But I'd definitely remember to be on the guestlist so you don't have to pay $20.
