Beautiful 1930s historic hotel where the cast of the Wizard of Oz allegedly stayed (and built secret tunnels to the studio for the 'munchkins'). Weird LA-indie music scene (we'll forgive them for that). Fun place to go for drinks, with a great outdoor area with heat lamps. Inside, more comfy, Princeton Club-style decor with large armchairs surrounding small art deco tables. Try the caipirinha or the pomegranate martini. Both were very tasty. This is a great place to feel like you're experiencing historic L.A. without getting that eery feeling that disaster is impending because all of the sudden you are surrounded by living plastic flotation devices. Loving downtown Culver City...

Personally, this is just about everything I want out of a taco experience. I say "just about" because the only thing Nick's has that I DON'T want out of this sort of experience is an overwhelming number of greased up, designer jean-wearing bros. But when it comes to delicious food, I can deal with that. I mean, I even love the awkward Red walls and the dirty mirrors that line them, and especially the out-of-place chandeliers. Something about the decor seems to tell a story of a once- classier place, fallen from its high-society apogee. But what Nick's lacks in refinement (who wants their taco stand to be refined, anyway?), they make up for with their great food, evidenced by an omnipresent, lively young crowd. I love coming here on Taco Tuesdays for people watching and the "deals." The one that really pans out for me is the cheap (2 for 1) Pacifico. I otherwise order the Fish taco, fried, Nick's way (not discounted), and am more than happy to pay full price. I also almost always order a Carnitas taco, also Nick's way (discounted on Tuesdays) because I cannot cheat on my true love (Mr. Pig), and am likewise (but to a lesser extent) happy with my meal. My favorite was when the DJ started mixing Zeppelin and M. Jackson together... It's the perfect, random end to Taco Tuesday at Nick's.

This place has one of the WORST service I've ever seen. No matter how much we rung the bell they would not come. We had to literally walk out to the front to get our order, and even then our drinks arrived like 15 minutes later! How long does it take for them to take drinks out of a fridge and take it to your room? The frickn remote didn't work either so we had to manually input it into the machine -_-. I liked the lights and the song selection however. But for a similar price, I think there are better places out there.
