by Nelson L. on This is going to be a somewhat contextual review of this place from me. This is by no means a bad bar (I have not tried it as a restuarant), but rather, it's somewhat out of place in the warehouse district of Williamsburg. Having Viva Toro around the corner from my favorite bar in Williamsburg (the Levee) means that I've walked by it a couple of times, and several times, my group has gone there as an alternative when our usual haunt gets too full. It's fairly standard, restaurant by day, bar/club by night. But it's clientele is extremely bridge & tunnel and bro-hammy. Earlier in the evening, its a good mix, but by 10p, it gets taken over by raggaeton and hip hop music and the line begins forming of Ed Hardy shirts and popped collared polos waiting to spill their grey goose and red bulls while watching their friends on the mechanical bull. This would be much more fitting in the UES or in Murray Hill, but in Williamsburg it sticks out like a sore thumb in the midst of so many other great bars and restaurants. That being said, the beer selection is good and the drinks are decent, albeit pricey considering the location. If this is your scene, this might be the bar for you, it's just not for me.
by Denis K. on Oh god.. I went to a Korean club.. Like the sound of a falling tree, if I don't review it, did it really happen? I walk by this place all the time during my commute from the office. From the outside, the entrance is Gothic, like you're about to walk into church. If you do, boy will you be in for a surprise. The days of going to clubs are far far behind me and I never expected that they'd ever be back. While the night began with the sweet promises of a jazz club, our group of eight Koreans gravitated to Circle instead, as if attracted by some property of cultural magnetism. We got there early and there was already a line of dudes outside. If you're a guy, it's $20 cover and best if you're in a group with a girl:guy ratio better than 2:1. My thoughts as I was handing over a hard earned $20 bucks: "Wow.. this is really happening.." Walking into the smokey, fog machine hazy dance floor, there were two groups from what I can tell - the girls shimmying on the dance floor and the guys sipping on drinks and watching from the sides or from their overpriced bottle serviced tables. Maybe it was still early and everyone was getting some liquid courage. Maybe not. Population: 90% Korean, 9% Other Asian, 1% random white guy. Expect Top 40, Kpop, and House. Did I enjoy it? Anywhere is fun as long as you're accompanied by good friends. Drinking also helps. Would I go again? Only kicking and screaming.
by Sammie Gragas on I really enjoyed G. My friends and I came here early one Saturday night (whooo hooo--no cover ladies!) and started the evening in the lounge section. At first the music was techno (blah-I hate that stuff :-/). So we asked the nice cocktail waitress if this music was going to be like this all night. She went to talk to the DJ and before you knew it the music was so good! Started off with some cool R&B songs which led in to hip hop/top 40 music. Besides your basic bar drinks, G lounge actually has a pretty nice cocktail menu. My friends and I really enjoyed the different flavor mojitos. Don't get their signature drink "the G"--it's overrated. If you like stronger drinks, go for the lychee martini. Come dressed-to impress! This place is hot as Philly is going to get.
