by Pat Panah on As a person lacking the enzyme to digest alcohol efficiently, 6th street doesn't appeal to me. The only redeeming qualities are music and games. Buffalo Billiards is the hub of games for that area. It has the standard bar games like shuffleboard, pool and darts. I prefer the upstairs because it tends to be less crowded and has other games like air hockey, foosball and videogames (Ms. Pacman / Mortal Kombat / Car Racing / Galaga). On two separate occasions I've arrived at the upstairs after the completion of someone else's private party making all the games within that room on "free play." The manner in which I play would be considered unhealthy since I'm not willing to leave that room or those games in fear that when I return they will become coin operated. I know the "free play" deal is a fluke and not part of standard operation but it's factored into the rating. If I were to rate this bar on the company (rest of 6th) it keeps, the rating would be lower. It's ok for 6th street.
by leigh s. on I have had dinner here several times, and I'm never disappointed in the food. The service lacked a bit once when we had a large group, but any time it's just the bf and I, its a good time. Plus, they just expanded their space, which should help accommodate larger parties on the bottom floor where the kitchen is. As for the food, I love their frisse salad with pears, gorgonzola, and walnuts...dressed with a champagne mint vinaigrette. Last night we ordered the mussels in a creamy coconut lime soy broth. Think mussels in tom ka gai soup broth. After devouring all of the mussels, I sopped up as much of the broth as I could with the bread that came out with it. So delicious. I also have had the salmon before which is quite tasty. Last night I had the deconstructed ravioli. Do me a favor and order this. Large noodles with shrimp, corn, avocado, spinach, zucchini, tomatoes, and a creamy sauce. I mean, does it really get much better than that? The dish is rich, but worth it. Final thoughts: Small space. Big taste. Give it a shot.
by Jonah Sarnowski on I like champagne and I like the Bubble Lounge. Decent crowd, decent music, trendy scene, good drinks, and no cover. You can even find parking in the area on most nights. But why do they keep the downstairs closed so often these days? I really hate that because it gets more crowded than it used to. And just a note: during the last visit, I was waiting in line for the bathroom and two sorority-ish 19 yr olds were comparing fake IDs. Yeck. Still, if I am in dressy/drinking kinda mood, The Bubble Room is where I go. It's trendy without being pretentious- which is a very difficult balancing act in SF.
