Upon first impression, H.Wood is pretty impressive. It's a MASSIVE two-story club with an outdoor area on both floors. It's going for that dimly lit, rustic-chic library look. It's also a rather convenient location; my girlfriends and I just walked over from our suite at the Renaissance. However, the crowd on a Saturday was just alright. Drinks are decent and there are multiple bars to choose from since its such a large club by Hollywood standards. I see a lot of complaints about long lines/waits. I'm not sure what that's about. There was indeed a line, but as soon as my girlfriends and I arrived, we were walked right in by the friendly promoter, Nate. I advise keeping in touch with promoters and arriving in a good ratio (eg: more girls than guys, and HOT girls, at that). It is Hollywood, after all. I may come again, perhaps on a different night.

one word: Terrible. I checked trusty ol' rateclubs to find a good place for me and my "bff" to score a scorpion bowl--and perhaps a few tasty snacks. The search turned up roses for the so-called-golden temple. I couldn't have been more disappointed. For starters, we were crammed into a corner in this crazy disco-beehive diningroom that I had been led to believe was going ot be trendy and/or classy. The waiter took his time getting to us, and once we placed our order for the NINETEEN DOLLAR scorpion bowl, he spent at least 6 minutes trying to prove that our IDs were not legit. After he finally gave up the search for a tell in our IDs integrity--he left in a huff. When he returned with our scorpion bowl (in the meantime we had been deliberating on appetizers) and A CHECK. Now, mind you--I was a little perplexed as to why he was bringing me the bill before I'd taken a sip of my first drink. When I jokingly asked how I was going to order more drinks--he simply ignored me outright and dropped the envelope on the table. At this point--I was almost mad enough to get up and walk out. However, my good-natured friend insisted we drink our booze, and leave in peace. Well--the two of us ladies pounded that scorpion bowl in no time flat--in order to escape the tacky/rude atmosphere. (Not to mention it appeared we were the only people under 40--and this was clearly a problem for some of the patronage from the way they were glaring at us) Both of us--who can hardly finish a second beer without falling down--evaluated that the scorpion bowl had been little more than glorified Hi-C mix and grenadine. Worst 20 dollars I've spent in a while. I will never go back.

It might be because it's my first time to a NYC club but this is my feedback: ~THE BIG~ *My drink tab for three drinks-$36 ~The BAD~ *Having to wait in an artificial line for 30 minutes *Finding out the place was empty when entering *$20 entry fee *Requirement of a girl for every guy to be allowed in ~AND THE UGLY~ *The few people that were in there *The bathroom *Some of the decor I admit there were a few good things like good sound system, okay ambience, and the crowd did start coming in after a while but I can't help but feel ripped off.
