by Terrence Widmar on BEST Happy Hour in town -- and on SATURDAYS too. Bartenders: AWESOME. Food: Good. MUSIC: Fun. Loud: YES. This place is great, and the hospitality is unbeatable. Go for Happy Hour, and if you make it past 2 of the $3.00 house margs, you'll have great people watching too. Kind of a dive, but perfect. Get there early so that you can grab your seat at the bar and just watch the fun.
by A S. on Shake it! I think Boston lacks dancing bars/clubs that aren't trashtastic. I'm from L.A. so the bars around Faneuil Hall are not my scene. I think the boxy space at Middlesex is a bit odd, but it's a good size and you can just scoot over to the edge to sit, chill, and people watch (c'mon, everyone loves watching that awkward guy grind). The drinks are reasonably priced, and the cover's not bad. My only complaint is the line! Ridiculous! It makes me angry! I'm not usually ready to boogie down by 10pm on a weekend night, so it's annoying to have to rush my ass to Middlesex to avoid the line down the block. On the upside, I always meet interesting people while standing in line for 40mins... Other than that, I really enjoy the DJs, the dancing, the drinks, and the crowd.
