by Hal Mertins on Where to begin?! This place looked cool from the very few pictures that were posted in here. So, we decided to go early to make sure we get in, we got there around 10 p.m. (on a Friday night) and there was no one in line at ALL! So we felt as though we struck gold, right?...WRONG! At around 10:30 people started lining up (around 15 people MAX). Then, the "Hugh Hefners and their bunnies" start rolling up and they are just letting them in. Being the only people in line to begin with, WE NEVER GOT IN! We decided to go to MADAME ROYALE, which is on the opposite corner from this joint. We had a very good time there and the people were all welcoming AND they did NOT have a cover charge! On our way back to the valet in front of WonderCrap there were people complaining that they were only letting people in who would fork over $5,000 or so on a table. WARNING! Most of their crew stands in front of the door (about 10) and are busy texting...
by Jeffrey Mickell on Overpriced burger, served in a cramped spot with a great view of a parking lot. For a better burger visit the Chuck Box in Tempe, Cheeburger Cheeburger also in Tempe, Johnny Rockets, the Hard Rock Cafe or even Carl's Jr! Spare yourself the pain of fighting for parking with people trying to get their groceries from the grocery store a few doors down. Unless you are a size zero, this place is CRAMPED! A more unwelcoming hostess I have never encountered. This is a burger joint people, not Nobu or the French Laundry!
by Doug K. on This review is for Giant at Vanguard which happens Saturday nights. This place is a mixed bag. Downsides include typical ridiculous Hollywood drink prices and ridiculous cover charges when bigger DJs roll through. I wouldn't recommend coming here and paying the high prices unless you like the DJs that come through. That being said, if you are an electronic music fan like I am, your ears will be in for a treat!! Dope ass music along with an incredible sound system to boot. My ears were ringing after I stepped out of this place and that is a good thing. So if you're into house/techno/trance music, then you should def. check this joint out. The crowd is mostly a more mature Hollywood crowd with a surprisingly low quotient of the raver/candy kid crowd. And ladies, for some reason electronic music facilitates less creeper/groper behavior amongst dudes than hip-hop music. All in all, Vanguard on Saturdays can be a great time if you're rollin with a group of people who appreciate the music.
