My first experience here was amazing!!! I went to the Soulslam Michael Jackson Vs. Prince party featuring DJ Spinna this past September. It was off the hook. Drinks are pretty strong, avg. priced. My only gripe is that their smoking patio is a little on the small side, but I understand that it's in an alley. Other than that, it's an sick place. I have to agree that their sound and light system is incredible. I love the warehouse venue, the building's facade (colorful lights), and its crowd. I know Lady Gaga, MIA, Passion Pit, Justice and even Q-tip among other amazing artists have had shows here... and it says a lot about the venue. Absolutely had a great time. Would go again for future shows or if I feel like dancing my little heart out.

This review is for their 80s event on Thursday night called 1984: This place hovers somewhere between 3 and 5 stars depending on what you're looking for. It's a 5-star event if you appreciate being time warped back to the 80s. The front room plays the likes of MJ, Bel Biv Devoe and Van Halen. The rear room was bumping Cure, New Order and other new wave stuff. It never got crazy crowded here and getting drinks were a breeze. If you have a group of late 20/early 30 friends who just want to be 17 again, this is a good place to do that. It's a 3-star event for several reasons. The schlong-to-flower ratio was somewhere between 3-to-1 and 5-to-1. Not great odds unless you're betting on a horse. You think this might be better for women but it really isn't unless you're looking for a 40 year old guy in a shabby suit who looks like he's more on a hunt for punani than he is there to dance and enjoy the music. Amazingly, the club seemed to hit it's stride around 1-2 ish. Overall, the crowd was very diverse.. an odd mix really. B&T oakland types, old dudes in cheap suits, freaks and geeks, yuppies and bro-mans. I'd probably wouldn't recommend this place to anybody in the mid 20s or younger (unless you seriously LOVE 80s music). I also wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking to meet women as the majority of them came with a bf.

I used to be afraid of this place, but then a few years ago for a hot minute, in the groups I run and with the acts I follow, it was the place to be -- to hear and be heard -- and then it seemed to fall completely off the radar... Recently, it's once again re-invented itself as the place to be for pretty much every taste -- big rock bands, small rock bands, pop performers, world-famous djs, and legendary yet relatively unknown djs. A few months ago I was dating someone, but noticed such luminaries as Xavier (from Justice) and Felix da Housecat were starting to pop up on the roster -- I tried to the best of my abilities to get both of us here, but somehow it just never happened... Ugh... But now, it's just me, on my own, without anybody else's prejudices or slothenness holding me back, and when I want to do something I do it -- Thank You God. Last night I saw Green Velvet... GREEN VELVET... I've worshipped him for over a decade -- he's probably my second favorite DJ, after Switch (aka Solid Groove), and it's rare that he ever plays live sets, especially in NYC... And how was it, you ask? Absolutely incredible, phenomenal, ridiculously amazing... The lines outside can be a little bit crazy, hectic, frenzied, chaotic, and unorganized... The bouncers can be a little pushy, brusque, and impatient... The crowds can be a little over-zealous and in-your-face, perhaps even obnoxious... Even though I wasn't drinking (alcohol) last night, whenever I went to the bar I noticed that drinks aren't cheap (whereas my glasses of ice-water were free, thankfully)... But, honestly, any place that can bring in big-name acts/attractions like this, and have a sound system as good as this, then who cares, to hell with all of it -- I'm a fan -- although perhaps I'd avoid coming here on just any given random night without making sure in advance that I really wanted to see the person/group that's playing.
