I read all the bad reviews.... and still went. rateclubsers, I'm beginning to mistrust your judgments. I had a "blasty blast" - as my friend put it. The venue is gorgeous. The view from either balcony is amazing. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. So here's what the crowd looked like on the Friday night: hot, Asian girls. older (not sleazy older... more professional older) men. Jamie fox. Quincy Jones. The music was just OK, even though Steve Aoki was dj-ing. He went from playing "shout" - the oldies song- to gaga - to gangster rap - all in the same 30 seconds. The drinks were ridiculously expensive- 17 dollars for a dirty martini with belvedere. That said, I had an amazing time. the crowd was non-sleazy, and everyone just looked like they were there to have a good time and relax.

TAO knows exactly what it is, which is why I give it a five instead of a four. Everything it aims to accomplish, greatly succeeds. The overwhelming volume in the dining room is definitely a CON. But the cuisine, the service, the restrooms and design of the main floor are major PROS. The fish is some of the freshest I've had, outside of Japan. The SEA BASS is worth dying for. The desserts are also excellent. I've been 3 times and will undoubtedly return. Definitely a place to take friends who are visiting the city and eager to eat well in an exciting atmostphere.

I made a stop here on my way to a buddy's wedding with a couple of friends and I have to say that we were absolutely astounded by the place. The first thing we noticed upon entering the establishment was the decor. From the wavy wooden ceiling to the contemporary minimalism design, the place looked like a whole new world. The menu ranged from traditional Japanese to asian fusion. All the foods that we ordered came out promptly and perfectly made. The other plus side is that most restaurants, the more expensive it gets the smaller the food portion. But not Morimoto's. We all left there full after eating our share of good food. The service was excellent as well. As for the price... It is a bit high in comparison to your average restaurant. But if you factor in the dining atmosphere, the service provided, and the ability to enjoy the intricate subtle flavors of Japanese cuisine, you get what you pay for. P.S. You are expected to wear business casual.
