Retro-cozy. There is a reason all the reviews regurge the word intimate. Its small, dimly lit, romantic. The bar is chic and there are small areas of recessed seating along the sides of the main floor that one can comfortably sit and have dinner while watching their favorite indie band. The stage is small and low, with your favorite artist right in your face. I was here to see Boyce Avenue and was ecstatic that they were smack in front of me. The cafe du nord does all ages shows, but it didn't feel overwhelmingly crowded with teeny boppers. Lots of street parking and easy to find. Minus a star for having a creepy bathroom moment because of having to climb stairs UP to get to a potty.

Let me tell you how great it is to come home from a concert without your ears ringing. I could hear everything so great. I was sitting on the balcony toward the middle (for the Andrew Bird show) and I could see everything great. Clean bathrooms. You can even hear the concert as you're peeing in them. This place is also pretty easy to get to by public transport if you don't mind walking a few blocks, it totally beats paying downtown parking prices. I took the redline and got off at pershing square station, it was only a walk of five smallish blocks. Yes the chairs are squashy--I'm five feet even and even my knees were dangerously close to the chair in front of me. I was right next to the aisle though so lucky me, i just had to shove the boyfriend over every time i wanted a bathroom break or some water. The theater is a sight pretty. My mom used to come watch movies here and she said it was rundown in her day, with seat springs digging nicely into one's back, but this isn't the case anymore. Lots of things have changed in downtown.
