by Douglas Gamby on Meh. I would never go back to this place. There were two DJ's, but you can't exactly dance (although people try to). The lights are all on and there isn't really a dance floor which makes it awkward. Drinks were not cheap. They charged me a $10 cover even though I was on the list. They didn't charge the other people in my group. Bummer. Probably a good place to go if you are in the mood to chill and people watch. But if you want a fun night of dancing-- you should probably pass.
by Eric S. on It's time for a change. As a major landmark establishment in the Mission, and one of the few places in SF with a rooftop deck, the owners of Medjool have the responsibility to the community to properly manage their business. Unfortunately, the level of service and quality of food has taken a major dive in recent years to the point where new ownership would be welcomed. Expect long waits and grumpy service as the wait staff is stretched to thin. On weekend evenings expect to pay $10 cover to be treated to more bouncers than bartenders and blaring mashups of top 40 hip-hop that completely misses the mood of the crowd. Even the roof deck is without merit as you wait in line for overpriced drinks from the a single bartender tending the cash only bar flanked by 2-3 bouncers with attitude. Medjool's menu is tired and the quality marginal. Going years without change they have lost customer loyalty. Out of town visitors who don't know better and the occasional larger dinner parties are now their mainstay dining business. There are so many better dinning options in the Mission someone would be hard pressed to pay the prices they charge for what they offer. It is unfortunate that a venue with such potential is off the list for so many people who live here. Let's hope the management is reading the reviews of all the unhappy customers and either makes changes or hands over the reigns.
by Dwight Bellini on On Halloween night, my friend passed out from heat exhaustion after four hours of dancing at DNA. It can happen to the best of us. This is not why I'm giving DNA five stars. I'm giving them five stars for their quick action and care. Seconds after my friend passed out, she was whisked outside by a bodyguard for some air. A female employee in a nurse's costume took her pulse, another in a black suit tested her reflexes. Over the next hour, we were offered an ambulance and water multiple times by different employees who seemed genuinely concerned. I'm truly impressed by the care and dedication of the DNA staff. Five stars.
