I visited The Varsity again after 10 years of avoiding it. The location is nothing special - a little out of the way, but definitely not inconvenient. I brought two people along with me to the restaurant. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the totally casual dress code. The place really has a casual atmosphere, too. The prices are very cheap. I ordered 2 chili dogs and it wasn't awful - it just wasn't fantastic. The service wasn't awful, but not great either. I probably won't return to The Varsity if I had the choice... but I guess if it was very convient I may. Oh also - The Varsity is very much of a tourist trap. The only time I will find myself going there is if I have a friend in from out of town... it isn't really a place you want to frequent unless you want to get congestive heart failure.

There are some bars you drink at and some bars you drink before. The Edison is one of the latter. This bar/lounge is all about the ambience. Don't buy a drink, if you are, who are you trying to prove yourself to? Trust me, you don't need $12 french fries. Things are wildly overpriced but you almost forget that because it really is a beautiful space. Service is pretty good. If you break down and actually buy something, the bartenders are solid and make good drinks. The crowd seems to be dominated by Asians and Latino's throwing birthday parties. Some of the crowd uses The Edison as a reason to dress-up all 1940's ish. Because of the role-playing taking place, The Edison is a great place to not use your real identity. Your name is Marshall Domingo and you wrote a wildly successful Nicaraguan children's book, but "enough about me, let's talk about you". Anyway, The Edison really is a beautiful place and it's great to bring out of towners. People are always amazed on their first time here. Even being a downtown local, I still like coming to this place.
