by Milda Garraway on Honestly? LOVE this place. I love the space. Every time I'm here, I wish I had a reason to throw a party there and rent the whole place out. I love the decor for the holidays, and I love the place without it. The food is yummy and affordable bar food, and the service is generally pretty decent. The servers are always nice, but when it gets crowded things can get a little crazy. Beer selection is good. Etc etc. I particularly love National Mechanics as an escape from the typical bar scene in Old City. It's a haven of sorts from. well. yeah. It also helps that the first time I came here was to see Peekaboo Revue... a little t&a will help warm any establishment to my heart.
by Sirena Seary on Other than Club 6, this place is one of the few roses of the SOMA streets (I'm not too much of a fan of this 'hood, but whatevs). The venue is noice! The bathrooms, espcially the sinks, looked like it came out of the pages of your Ikea catalog. Ditto with the upstairs lounge which had ottomans for all the pretentious cool people to sit, drink martinis and adjust themselves for trying to fit into women's jeans. It also has a seperate area with couches and LCD screens, which I had the pleasure to experience at the showing of the Daft Punk movie, Electroma. (Believe me, you needed a comfortable seat to watch it.) It also has a good sound system. I went here for Diplo and the Fool's Gold Tour and didn't hear any complaints about "turning my mic up" or any feedback problems. And if find the right spot, you can alleviate your profuse sweating (like me) and dance under the gusts of the oscillating fan that shoot down on the floor. In addition, the bar had my beer, Newcastle, thus I can't really hate on them for that and you can see how much money you wasted on alcohol cause you can see the cost on the touch screen registers next to them. The only drawbacks of this place would be the venue. They have pillars on the floor thus your view of the stage might be obscured. Also, parking might be a bitch cause the streets are very narrow and you might find a faint whiff of excrement and piss permeating in the air. But what do you expect from the area? ZING! Other than that, there's only one couch near the soundman booth and a very wide table that's very low to the ground. If you're drunk and heading from the bar to the bathroom, please watch your step if you're near that couch cause you might miss the table and fall your ass. Believe me, that has happened many times. In general, the venue always have a great list of upcoming concerts and events planned so you better bookmark their website for the info. This is one of the places I go to see shows in SF. Fuck those other places that are owned by a multi-media company and their fucking overpricing.
by Nancie T. on I thought I saw Kim Sung Soo here! Until I noticed that all guys there looked the same - gel in hair, striped button down collar shirt, dark wash jeans, black shoes. Oh.... nothing to get excited about. They serve "asian" drinks such as lychee martini and soju, but they didn't have my favorite - yogurt soju! *pouts*
