by Wayne Darr on I have never had a bad time here. I usually go on Friday nights! The bartenders are attentive and Friday usually has a good music that encourages me to dance all night. This club attracts all types and the crowd is usually pretty diverse. Their food isn't bad either. The french bread pizza is pretty yummy. A few of the times I have been there they have had open bar till 10 on a particular brand of alcohol which is always nice and keeps the costs to a minimum if you get there early enough. This place can get really crowded but usually isn't that horrible, after all it is a club. One of the only cons is the area as it is often pretty difficult to flag a cab down in the neighborhood but that has nothing to do with 330.
by Clair Granthan on One thing I love about Austin is the multitude of good sandwich shops, as it's one of my go-to meals if I can't figure out what to eat. I haven't seen the inside of a subway since moving here, because there are so many other fantastic choices. My sammich of choice is a turkey, and occasionally if I'm not in the mood for some reason, a tuna. I'm picky like that. If you would have asked me a few months ago, I would have probably given Jimmy Johns a lower rating, and I usually tried to convince anyone that wanted to go there for lunch to go with me to Jason's or Thundercloud or anywhere else. See, I just wasn't down with their turkey, and their tuna tasted a little funny to me, so I'd usually just get the turkey tom with no mayo and eat what seemed like a mediocre sandwich. One day though, I got a wild hair up my ass and ordered a vito (I believe I was on day 2 or 3 having sandwiches catered for dinner at work) and I am in love. The bread is delicious (which was the high point of the sandwich before), the salami and capicola is spicy and tasty, the dressing is tasty, and adding pickles and peppers on it....nummy. I guess it might be a bit unfair to rate JJ's so highly on one sandwich when the rest were sorta meh, but I'm just so thankful they turned me on to something different and good, because one cannot live on turkey and tuna alone. They also get extra props for having a great website with nutritionals on everything they serve. The service is ridiculously fast and friendly, but they don't have plastic knives (I like my sandwich cut in half and use it to chop up the big honkin pickle). What's up with that? Totally minor, but...worth mentioning, I guess. Go get a vito and thank me later!
by Kevin W. on I live on the same block as Ms. Tootsie's and the smell of their food has been a siren call for some time. I finally submitted to my craving and paid them a visit last night. Wow. Everything was excellent - the service was quick and extremely friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, the fried catfish was perfect, the string beans had a spicy edge to them, and the mac and cheese served a reminder that what Kraft claims to be "mac and cheese," is really just a horrible imitation. As an added bonus, the ice tea was homemade and came out in a collectable water bottle. Wow. The only thing remotely negative was the price - expect to pay between $12-$18 for your entre. But, the old saying is true, "You get what you pay for." One other thing.... It's a shame this even has to be said, but rateclubssters of European ancestry should know that there's a strong chance that you'll be the only white person in the restaurant. If this fact makes you uncomfortable, then that's all the more reason you should go. Dr. King once said that a person should not be judged by the color of their skin. Instead, they should be judged by the quality of their food. Well, maybe King didn't put it exactly that way, but I'm sure he would if he ate at Ms. Tootsies. The quality of their food is excellent and the content of their character is even better - I definitely felt at home there.
