My first review as an Elite!  Yay!  In passing by Atlanta on my way to Florida, a pirate themed restaurant with live jazz sounded like a great way to spend an evening, so that's exactly what we did.  I wasn't sure what to expect initially upon entering the restaurant apart from the fact that there was supposed to be a pirate ship as part of the décor, but I didn't expect that most of the restaurant was actually in the pirate ship.  They even had live turtles and alligators (though I didn't actually see any of the alligators)! The thing I didn't care much for with regards to Dante's was the fact they basically had you deep-fry your food.  True, you're using soy oil versus peanut or vegetable oil which is a little better, but I would have much preferred a broth to cook my meats and vegetables in.  Their pecan pie was uber sweet and uber good - a la mode, of course! The service was phenomenal.  We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday evening, but they were able to accommodate us no problem.  Our waitress was extremely friendly, helpful, and downright funny.  She enhanced our experience that much more (and topped my daiquiri with whipped cream and a cherry!). All in all, good service, unique theme, decent food, a fun night out.

Was it worth the $7 cover charge? FUCK NO! Since I found out through the other reviews that you had to pay for a cover there was no way that I was going to pay for parking so I found a place on the street which was luckily close by. But I had a good time regardless. The latinas and black girls always got a lot of love for me therefore I knew something was gonna happen when I came here, so I liked that. Also I am a fan of thick girls and this place definitely had some to offer. When I walked in there were two rooms, one with hip hop the other with salsa music. Unfortunately, these rooms are so fucking dark you can't even see what the people look like! The music was off the hook for the first couple of hours, they started out with some old school hip hop classics, but then towards the end of the night they started playing some 80's shit and the dance floor started empyting out. This place is in a shady area but the club is fun. Will I come back again? possibly, that $7 cover bothers me, but this is a good spot for a Friday so I just might. Should you try this place if you haven't been here? absolutely.

i have such mixed feelings about club waziema.  the food is unbelievable.  it's a fun dive bar that has my favorite ace pear cider.  a really good place for big groups because you can take up a bunch of tables in the back and still be able to hear each other talk.  it's a short bus-ride down divis. from my house.  and the all-you-can-eat veggie combo during happy hour is an amazing deal. however, the staff doesn't seem to be very keen on upholding their end of the all-you-can-eat deal.  i can eat a lot, which sometimes surprises people.  but especially i can eat a lot of stewed split peas or lentils.  and the staff at waziema is nowhere to be found when you want a refill.  once you finally reach someone, they will give you a few tablespoons of the dish you want to refill.  then if you want a refill of something else, you need to repeat the entire 30-minute process.  i'd give them a shining 5 stars if it weren't for their service and am only giving them 4 stars because the food is seriously that good to keep coming back even though the service is laughable. edit 11/30/07 we went back the other day and the waitress was SO NICE and SO SMILEY and she gave me thirds and even asked if i wanted fourths.  so forget what i said before.  i'm bumping it up to 5 stars.
