I think it's pretty much impossible for a large outdoor drinking space to get less than four stars from me. Add that its on the water and you can get good food as well and yes, it is actually impossible to get less than a Yay! I'm a fan. We took a quick break from the non stop Del Klose improv comedy marathon at the UCB to head over to The Frying Pan for some food and another friend's birthday party. It was my first trip after hearing about the bar on a boat for the last couple years. I wasn't expecting something that old school but the atmosphere was great. We got a couple of beers, ordered food and somehow managed to grab a table. I don't like dive bars because the beer is cheap, but the money saved is a nice side benefit. It throws me off, however, when I then go someplace and am asked to pay $7 for a Corona. If I hadn't been out on a boat during a great summer NYC night, I might have been more upset, but on this night I wasn't complaining. The food was good as well. I just got a hot dog and it was decent. My friend had decided to go vegetarian for a month as a partial protest to her Philadelphia Eagles signing Michael Vick. I still don't really get that, but she really liked the roasted vegetables & hummus wrap. Overall, the frying pan is a unique experience and a great place to spend a nice summer day or evening in this city. Be prepared to spend a little cash if you're planning to stay a while, but you'll have fun too.

let me say first that i dont know if my experience at buddha bar is typical - i was there with a large group, and we sat off to the side at a large circular table. this table was very difficult to sit down at in a skirt without flashing the whole table, by the way, since it was set down into the floor. i didnt feel that we got as much of a feeling for the atmosphere and what it would be like on a regular night. our food was good - we had the spring rolls, spareribs, and shrimp to start. i was more impressed with the entrees - even though this is an asian fusion restaurant, they had a good variety of dishes. we had seabass, chicken, steak, as well as fried rice and a vegetable curry. they were very good, and it was plenty of food. for dessert, we shared the creme brulee, a chocolate cake, and 2 other desserts. they were just okay i thought. i will say that the cocktail i had at the start was delicious - it was blueberry and pomegranate with vodka... yum!!
