by Gonzalo Esterbrook on Every God damn thing I love about downtown L.A. I saw The Avett Brothers here which was simply amazing. This band was just perfect for this venue. Go catch a show here and make sure it's your favorite band. No joke this whole building is simply timeless, will put you back in time when men were wearing suits, hats, a pocket watch, & women wore dresses every day. Awesome.
by Marshall Headlam on group of 30. we had the most beautiful girls too. trust me, the girls they were letting in had nothing on the ones in our group. our guys were average but there were less than 10. we waited at the front of the line for almost an hour and a half. when we realized they wouldn't let our kind in (asian/filipino/black), we bounced. worst buzz kill ever. some people in the party had even talked to some contact listed on the website earlier in the week and still didn't help. when we left the line, 30+ strong, there were literally 3 people left. they were doods and only one of them was white, so i'm thinking they didn't get in. we know it wasn't because the place was packed. the opposite is true. neways, we packed up moved a few blocks down. i'm guessing people who work for opera didn't vote for obama.

Don't go to Ruby Skye unless it's for some type of SPECIAL EVENT and don't go unless you have finagled some way to not pay cover. Anyway, I have now been to Ruby Skye for 2 quite different events: 1. The Guardsmen Auction- high point of the evening is a tie between the firemen striptease and when the couch my friends were sitting on tipped over- AKWARD but HILARE and please pardon my shadenfreude. I spent way too much $$ on champagne 'cause Imma classy bitch but overall it was OK and they handled the open bar portion of the evening well. 2. CONTRASTINGLY the other day I went to see the Suicide Girls frolic about to the sweet sounds of Trevor Simpson. See, I was interested because a. the Suicide Girls were edgy like 5 years ago and I wanted to see what lengths they would go to to stay relevant- I had my $$ on licking each other. But, none of that. They were very personable however, and gave me a nice calendar! b. I saw those bitches on CSI- 'member, one of 'em stabbed the other with a neon green stiletto boot? A classic eposide. It was overall pretty fun, mostly because it wasn't too crowded and there were HELLS ANGELS there! Always a plus in my book. So yeah, back to Ruby Skye: The sound is good, the drinks are expensive. SHOCKER! People love to hate this place. But if something interesting is happening, IMO the fact that it is at Ruby Skye is not a deal breaker. I mean, even the Hells Angels can gird themselves to come here once in awhile, so you can too, I think. Just have to remember to preparty!
